Check and make sure the engine is actually turning over as you kick it. Take the cam cover off and see if the cam spins as you kick it. If not its the clutch slipping. They kickstart through the clutch so if the clutch is slipping alittle then you could be just kicking it till it slips enough to build up heat to start turning the motor over.

my sons 110 does this also. If you kick slowly it fires fine, if you kick quick it slips. I have also clicked it into gear, rolled it back and forth and then put it back in nuet and it fires fine. I suspect clutch. What will HD springs do with the stock auto??? btw its way worse with fresh oil.

bringing back an old thread. I'm having this same problem. Once the motor is warmed up it works a lot better, but still not as it should. It still shifts fine and runs strong, clutch has recently been replaced, heavy springs and all. Just replaced both gears on the kickstart shaft along with the spring on the end of it. When cold you have to keep working the starter lever back and forth until it catches then kick it. sometimes takes 15 minutes to get it lit up. After that it"s usually a couple tries. putting the bike in gear and rolling it backwards then back to neutral seems to help. I don't think it's the output shaft as it still shifts fine and makes no weird noises when kicking. At first I thought it was the clutch, replaced it, then thought it was the kickstart gears and now they're brand new also. I'm kinda good at this motor thing and I'm scratching my head here. Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be the one way bearing on your auto clutch hub. If that bearing is going bad and letting it spin then when you kick the kickstart the bearing is just spinning and not spinning the crank over. If thats not it double check your clutch is together right cause it sounds like a slipping issue. But my money is on the one way bearing in the auto clutch housing.
