Does anyone have any Honda specs or info that states the stock top speed for a Z50? Please email me or post if you have a owners manual or dealer brochure that states a top speed for any year of Z50. dsmith7797@aol.com

I have a '71 Z50A-K2 hardtail that came stock with 12/35 gearing. With stock carb and exhaust on it it struggles to rev past 8000 rpm. I've seen it touch--briefly--8600-8800 rpm on a downhill, maybe with a tailwind, wide open. On the flat, wide open, it sits at 7500-8000. With a 4.00x8 tire run a little soft for bump absorption, that's less than 30 mph, but it can climb most of the road hills around here without shifting down with my large self on it.

I recently changed to 13/35 gearing and now it can top 30 on the flat but sometimes I have to shift down to 2nd gear on the big hills.

I haven't tested my son's Z50R yet but it feels like it's more willing to rev; not sure if I'm hitting 10K or not but it will definitely zing up higher than my old bike.

I believe you could get a stock Z to hit 60 MPH...

It would take a few things-

20 tooth front and 24 tooth rear!

Bonneville salt flats and 20 miles of track.

A push vehicle to get it up to at least 30.

A rider with a big brass set of B**** cause with 8 inch wheels in the salt you know its gonna get ugly!

i have a stock 50cc 1978 gorilla that all i have added is a aftermarket muffler, 1-1/2" exhaust pipe and aftermarket air cleaner. my speedo is in KM but i have had it pegged at 60kph passing a car that said i was doing 43mph.

looking to add a lifan 125cc or 110cc international shift. should get up to 60mph.

told by biker friends that 17 of them would ride behind me so i don't get run over on the way to a bike night celebration. so i want just a little more speed beside 43.

any bad things to know about lifan engines. i got a 6v bike. told to use a regulator to keep all my stuff working. thinking about switching to 12v anyway.

I don't think so. Theoretically if you geared it that high it would go that fast, but a stock motor simply doesn't have the power. I have a well worked over 72cc motor, ported short rod Z50 head, performance exhaust, 20mm carb, fully portmatched, and it barely hits 55. It isn't like it tops out because of gearing, it just doesn't have the power to go faster.

You didnt finish my quote. You can get anything to go fast its how you get there. Hence the push vehicle and 20 miles of track. Maybe a rocket too...

First gear with that gearing would be similar to third gear with stock gearing. A stock motor can take off in third gear no problem. Sluggish yes, but impossible no. The stock motor can't go 60 mph with any gearing. Drag increases exponentially with speed. The bike has the power to carry the weight of itself and rider, and also work against a certain amount of wind resistance. The wind resistance is too much at 60 mph and the stock motor simply can't do it. Not unless you ride with a very, very strong tailwind.
