What size main jets are you guys with 28mm carbs running? I'm at sea level as an FYI. Currently running a 125 which seems to be too small.

I have that carb on my 146 with ported BVH. Fell flat on its face with a 125 MJ. Too fat. Found 95MJ and 42PJ to be ideal. Also at sea level BTW.

Thanks Jim. I thought it was too lean because it wouldn't bog as much with the needle clip all the way at the bottom.

The takegawa intake I have is meant for the 28 in a zb frame. With the 26 it comes close the frame and is hard to get to the choke.

If you have a 95 main, run it and see where you end up. It may be fine. If you run lean, go bigger.

I went from a VM26 to the PE28 and noticed a significant gain. More revs and a few mph on top

 

having some trouble getting this carb straightened out. it's frustrating.



running a F1343H 24NAAC needle (clip in the middle) with a 95 main and 42 slow and can't get the thing to start. idle and air screw both turned out 1 1/2.



i've tried moving the clip up and down, messed with the air and idle and still nothing. i have spark, the plug is still good, and there's fuel in the bowl.



wonder if the gas i put in was bad gasoline.



any suggestions?

 

Good compression ? Proper cam timing ? Valve clearance checked ? Sounds like your issue is something other than the carb.

just picked up a bobber suzuki ls650 and have been focused on buttoning that up. it's a damn fun thumper!

 

Going good man, been off PM for a while. ZB is still rollin, actually found a PE28 in a box of parts and slapped it on as found. Ran like poo. jets were way off pilot 52, main 115, needle clip on the top(only way I could compensate at the time). Went and rode anyway but surprised i made it back home without fouling the plug.



got a 40 pilot in it today and much better but don't have a smaller main yet. It starts 1st kick, no choke and a/s out 2-1/2 turns. need to go leaner still. I'm going to go play in the canyons tomorrow and see as I can't get any jets til monday.



Did you try with the choke, or taking the a/s in a little? maybe go up to a 45 pilot.

She starts now. Ended up being a fouled plug. First time I've had one of those. Idles fine but still bogs quarter throttle on. I'll pick up some smaller jets and play around.
