I'm looking to by some tires for my latest build. Could someone explain the differences in the metric to standard sizing to me?

For the front... 90/90x10 VS. 3.00x10

For the rear... 100/90x10 VS. 3.50x10

I'm planning on running either the Pirelli SL26, the Michelin S1 or the Dunlop TT91 (?) Mostly running on indoor kart tracks this winter...

Thanks...

Working on the fact that 1" = 25.4mm i'd have to assume the metric tyres to be bigger......but i'm far from an expert on tyres so......

just a note, if you're looking at the Michelin S1, probably worth having a look at their other 10" tyre the "Bopper".

Metric - 90/90x10 (90mm wide/90% of that width is the height x 10in wheel. Not sure why they have 10" measurement with a metric measurements) This is equal to roughly 90mm/81mm x10

3.00x10 = 76.2mm x10

3.50x10 = 88.9mm x10

100/90x10 is nearly a 4" tire (3.93 inches)

Hope that helps understand the sizing.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

The 90/90x10 is about the same width as the 3.50, but a bit shorter in profile?

Seems like its almost too wide for stock CRF rims.

This is my first motard build. I've only ridden a "real" motard mini once in my life and I am PUMPED to get into it!! It was a buddy bike and he seems to know what he's doing. His bike, the one I rode the other night, (only a couple dozen laps, tops) was set up with 3.00x10 and 3.50x10 Pirelli tires and seemed to handle like it was on rails. The tires stuck like glue on the indoor kart track. There were a couple turns where you could really get the bike leaned over and I felt very confident with the handling... On the quicker, tighter turns, there was a bit of rear slide stuffing her in hard, but nothing too unpredictable...

Question... Would a shorter profile tire work even better in my situation by eliminating the side wall flex?

Question... Is a "stagger" in sizes, such as a 80/90-10 front, 90/90-10 rear really necessary on these small bikes? Or would a 90/90-10 front AND rear be the hot ticket?

Thanks for all the info you can provide to this motard virgin... :grin:

If you are running stock wheels, I would just run 3.00x10s. There is really no reason to stagger the sizes if you have the same width wheels. I have also run 80/90x10 IRCs front and rear and was one of my favorite setups. I personally think that 3.50 is too big stock wheels.

i run 90 9010's on a stock front with a billet rear..they run pretty good, but i had a little issue with the front hitting the side of the stock forks whenever i still had them....it just rubbed a little bit till' it wore down, wasn't that big of an issue, but just to let you know...
