Hello all,

It's your old school Socal50.

Tacklin a full suspension ATC70 thought I would share...

Followed the same pattern as the R55 and most of these projects. I cut the carrier out of the original frame, bought 2 1/2"(hole) heims off of Ebay with Bungs. I reccommend these 5 8 18 Thread x 1 2 Bore Chromoly Panhard Bar Heim Joints Kit Bung 1 1 4 x 120 | eBay the original ones I bought were too sloppy.

Drilled frame out to 1/2". Lined everything up, build swingarm.

Mocked up on welding table, dont have the triple done yet so tacked the front end up with a simulated front height for when I have them mounted..

Turned down the drum. Uncle has a lathe, but you can probably do this with an angle grinder if you need too. Drilled holes, set up disk. Did more grinding, built a bracket for the disk brake...

For the ATC70 tank/body work, I heated up the sub frame, bent it down, cut out the original piece off the ATC70 frame and welded it in. Its held in the back, havent figured out what to do to hold in the front. Also built a tap right off the shock mount for the tank mount. Then I cut the tabs off the front of the original frame (For the rubber pieces that hold the front of the tank), measured, and welded these onto the frame...

Is the shock mount crooked or does it just look funny in the picture? but other than that looks good! wish I had an ATC :(

First off, cool build and thanks for sharing. I must have a suspended 70 one day! :)

For the tripples try Spangler's, they make the nicest ones I have ever seen with no top stem nut for a super clean look. I am thinking about adding these triples and some upside down forks to my 150cc hardtail until I can build or buy a suspended 70 one day.

Oh, I see your dilemma. Well Spangler's designs and makes their own parts so I would still call Logan and at least ask if they could change the tool path program and make the fork holes to 45mm like you need. It might be worth asking as they are very helpful. I recently bought a billet front hub they make and there was none in stock at the time. 2 days later I had one sitting on my door step. It's worth a phone call or at least an email to them I would think

The forks I have are pretty typical USD chinese forks, just the ones that are 45mm throughout. I think I will need to drill out the bottoms to 15mm. Is it a forged axle or more like all-thread?

I am not sure exactly how he made them but they are not all thread. He turned them down in a lathe and threaded both ends. It is literally impossible to find an axle that long, trust me, I looked everywhere. I ended up having to have him remake a stepped axle for my MArzocchi forks so I have this one just laying around. Just thought I would offer it to you.

It's strait 15MM? Can you give me the length? Might pick that up. I am still having a hard time finding someone to do the triples, Spangler only has Xr70 forks and the USD forks they do only have the stem for an ATC70R style neck (long) I need the USD triples that will fit on an Xr70 style neck.

I will send you a few pictures and measurements when I get home. Yeah, the triples are a pain to find. I got lucky to get some Marzocchi forks at a decent price and had Think make me some triples. Either way you look at it though it gets expensive. But that is half the fun and challenge of building something that nobody else has I guess.

Well, two thoughts come to mind.

1) (the Mr Obvious idea) Work with what you can get.....Sell your forks and get some 45mm/48mm forks that fit the beautiful Spangler tripple trees and your golden.

2) Or have someone machine an adapter ring collar/spacer to slip over your 45mm forks and make them 48mm OD (I would split the collar on one side making it like a crush sleeve). That should be easy and cheap for any local machinist to make. Then get the Spangler's tripples and you are set.

You see this commonly on handlebar risers when your bars are 7/8" dia and the bar risers are 1 1/8" ID. They use a split collar to adapt the smaller handlebar to the larger bar risers. I have a set of ROX risers that have this very feature to fit both sizes of handlebars.

Good ideas, however Spanglers design is for the ATC70 neck, I have an XR70 neck. He even said he has a shim for 45/45 forks to work in his triples but the stem will not. I am stuck, think369's machine is still down any one have other ideas?

IM BACK in BUSINESS!

Think369 couldnt make the triples because his CNC is still down, BUT he is selling me the triples off of another of his bikes! YESSS I'm buying his zokes too, so I would have to put my POS forks on the wheeler. Will have this thing going together in the next month or so hopefully, stay tuned!

So some changes, painted ultra flat, used some 1.5mm metal to ship the bottom triples to work with my 45mm/45mm forks (Triple clamps are designed for 45mm/48mm forks)... its a roller! Have a set of zokes but they are too long, so I am going with the chinese forks and selling the zokes. $300 shipped if you want them... check out the pics!

Nice progress! So what did you use for the front axle? And how long are the forks you are using now?
