Very interesting on the carbon fiber finish. As for big bore, that is already set in stone. The engine is already a Takegawa R-stage 88cc with the intentions of installing a 52mm stroker crank in the near future.

Lovin this bike. Yellow w/ carbon decals look excellent. Get crackin! It's almost spring! I vote for black hubs w yellow rims. Or...G-Craft 3.5 alum rims! Did them on my 91 CT70 and never regretted it.

Just finished my CT70 "Lady Dax" resto mod and powdercoated the hubs in Midnite Black (metallic) w/ the G-Crafts. Looks great. You can run a wider tire too.

Good luck with your build!

Re: RySem's CT70 Build Thread

I got my tires in and it looks like the 120/70-12's are gonna work. I have these pics also posted in another thread regarding the fitment of 12" rims on a CT70, but I'd like to also keep them documented in my build thread. My apologies for the double-post of sorts. Here's some rough mock-up pics of the tires (on the rear at least).

Looks good. What color are you going wit the wheel. Im assuming your painting them. Its going to be a very cool bike when its done.

The wheels I'm thinking will be a metallic black of sorts. My local PCer has this color called lava mist I believe and it looks pretty awesome. I'm 87.5% set on that at this point.

You are having to offset the front sprocket to match up with the rear, correct?

I haven't gotten that far into it yet. I still have to do some measurements, but I assume I will have to offset one of the sprockets. I'm not 100% positive, but I think the YSR hub may actually have the rear sprocket inboard compared to the CT one. I'm hoping that this is the case as I can easily waterjet a spacer ring to move the rear sprocket outboard. If I do have to offset the front sprocket, what's the best way to go about that?

A couple of companies make 4-7mm offset front sprockets and you could make a spacer to line up the rear. From the looks of the width of that tire, you'll have to run an offset on the front.

Easy fix on your part if needed.

It's good to see you are making progress again. Tires are sharp looking, hopefully they fit alright after you mod up the swinger brake rod mount. I have already been riding a bit just on a couple main roads. There is so much sand on the roads it is scary. ;)

It's been a while...here's a quick update of where things stand:

I basically have a bunch of projects going on within this one project. This is what happens when you're waiting for parts to come in and such.

Right now I have the engine apart and I'm getting ready to split the cases and install the 5spd tranny and stroker crank. From there I'll install the Takegawa special clutch and baja designs stator and toss the top end back on. Everything inside was in phenomenal condition (cylinder wall still showed cross-hatching!). I will be doing all new gaskets and seals while I have it all apart.

Another thing I'm working on is a custom seat cover. I have sourced some awesome carbon-fiber grain vinyl. The seat will be a combination of this carbon-vinyl and straight up black vinyl. Will post pics as this progresses.

This brings me to the wheels fiasco...as stated in previous posts, my initial plan was to run yamaha ysr50 wheels. It is looking like this plan may go by the wayside. I purchased a set of aluminum 12" rim halves from CHP (they just got them recently). They utilize the stock CT hubs, which I kinda like. They came in today and my first impression is very positive. If I go this route, I will be machining the front hub for a brake disc mount. I have also ordered up an aluminum swingarm kit. It looks like this will give me a little more room to play with as far as the big tires go. I just want to have all the options in front of me so that I can choose the best combination.

That's about it for now...pics soon, I promise!

Have you set a deadline yet? My bike is on the road, but I have to figure out how I can register my bike. Any ideas? I would just go register it, but I have no mso for the the bike and it is a '97.

No deadline...I have way too much going on. It gets done when it gets done. I'm trying like heck to make that soon though. As for registering your bike...best of luck with that one. Pre-81 bikes are super easy. Anything newer than that, you're screwed. Your bike is new enough too where it would probably be in the system as an off-road vehicle. You can have an MSO for a z50r, xr, crf, etc and still have no way of registering it as it is marked off-road only.

im in australia, and searching as hard as i can? i cant find any of these style frames over here except for the odd special import....

all ive found are the other style with the single down tube... sux...

reminds me to ask my mate if that c50 frame is still at his landlords.... is it just me or do they suffer from a cam/valve/head problem? every time i see one, its the head thats been pulled apart and then apparently left as not worth the trouble... is the only reason i never got it earlier

This bike is known as an ST70 or DAX outside of North America. There's really no particular history of bad top ends that I know of. These little engines run forever typically...a lot of the time if something goes wrong, it's because someone was tinkering with it. There are some Aussie's over on the planet minitrails forum with ST70s. Good luck with the search!

st has spoked wheels and an xr70 style swing arm. We actually had them in the states for a year or two if I remember right.
