Hey,

I run the 35mm Zokes on my CRF and i have always had trouble with the front brake the formula never worked and is now broken trying to fix a seized caliper. I then bought a Hope Mono M4 and got a custom rotor this worked ok but also was pretty bad because the brake itself needs to be rebuild with new seals ect i took it to a MTB shop today and they said it would be ÂŁ75 for new seals, pads leaver rebuild and pistons and a bleed. i only payed ÂŁ40 for the brake itself and at the end of the day its just a MTB brake are they any good working ?? What other options are there ?

Any Help Welcome

Many Thanks

I just switched from the stock formula brake (junk) to a kx65 front brake.

You need to buy a complete kx65 front brake set, caliper, line, master cylinder, (ebay is your friend) and I used the

STR kx65 brake adapter

And either the formula 200mm rotor or a galfer one from the website linked above.

It shows it is for the klx110 marzocchi forks but works on the crf50 marzocchi forks too. Also the stock kx65 brake line is the perfect length for the 50 forks so you don't need to get a different one.

$100 for the adapter, and I got my kx65 brakes for $40, already had the 200mm rotor trying to get the stock ones to work decent.

Real motorcycle brakes for about ÂŁ90 plus shipping.

I'm going to take the hit and get it done i figure that once its done its done and then ill just have to replace the pads and occasionally a seal i think as i got it second hand it was pretty much on its last legs when i got it so regular maintenance from now on will cut down on the killer bills. If its still rubbish, as it is still just a MTB brake ill go with that KX65 option i cant help thinking that a little mountain bike brake is not man enough for the speed and weight of a minibike.

Watch out for some pics up soon the bike is almost done and ready for racing this year

i had a hayes nine i think on a set of sp5s, the stock rotor got bent on a tree root while riding in the woods, i took it to the local mtb store and i got a wavy rotor that was about 1mm thicker than the normal rotor that was the best front break i had on my 50 even better than the magura set up i had on the SR6 forks, i think it was the thicker wavy rotor that made the difference

you can also get a magura set up that fits your forks

Got the brake back yesterday and its like brand new every seal replaced all new pads pistons it is amazing now well worth the ÂŁ75.23 should shave off a good 3 or 4 seconds a lap now that i no longer have to rely on engine braking and the soles of my boots

I don't get what everyone's problem is withy the formula brake. I have had mine from brand new with the forks and it has been excellent. It has only been under par when I bought mtb pads for it instead of higher quality ones meant for the heat because the mtb ones fell out on heavy use !
