thanks for the reply but i have tried using that diagram and still nothing. i dont know whats going on here, i remember when i installed my lifan 125 i had a bit of trouble but nothing like this..

 

Have you disabled the kill switch? Stupid question but ya never know. Make sure the ground is good and the coil is properly connected. Did the motor come with all the electronics or are you trying to mix and match stuff, thats where I ran into problems when I installed my motor.

 

I have no kill switch connected right now, i have the lifan wire harness for the outter rotor kit, my problem is that the wires on the harness are different colors than the wires on the engine.

start by taking the yellow and white wires out of the picture, they are power off the stator. what wire colors are left then?

 

Do you think its possible that green is not the ground? i pulled the flywheel and there is the black wire with a red stripe on the right side of the stator, two green wires going to a coil of wire on the top side of the stator and a white wire going to the left side of the stator.

 

if u have the flywheel off u can see what color is ground and what not. green is ground on all my engines lifans loncins and yx 90s 110s 125s and my 150

I Just picked up an ebay lifan 140 "package" My motor came with a "big" cdi with 8 wires. this sound right? the motor itself has the exact same wires as my small cdi lifan 125. soes this still mean my small cdi wont work? maybe the seller gave me the wrong cdi? oh and for entertainment. he didnt give me any cdi harness at all. if the big cdi is correct for me do i just need to buy that harnessi seen on your sight?

you help would be appreciated

i just wired up a lifan 140 a couple weeks ago, are you using the CDI and coil that came with the engine?? on my lifan "harness" all the green wires are connected together, they are all grounds. there is a two wire pair coming together off of it that go to the coil, the green wire with a ring terminal was bolted under the coil mounting bolt and the other wire (forget color (black and yellow maybe)) connected to the colored coil wire. the green wire on the coil itself doesnt need to be connected to anything as you use the bolt and ring terminal as ground connection. if you connect the black and white wire coming off of the cdi to any ground it activates the kill. I left it completely disconnected until I got spark.



so, connect the green wire coming off the motor to the green in the harness. don't connect the white, yellow or green/red to anything.the only two wires you have left should match right up to the harness colors and connect to the CDI. if you connect it up this way you WILL get spark. I found that the first few times I checked for spark I had to crank the motor over pretty good to see it. I thought I wasn't getting spark when I actually was. I will be taking my bike apart to finish it up soon so if you need some pics let me know.

Hey maybe this will help you. I had a box full of Chinese electrical parts off of some four wheelers that I had acquired and all of the wire harnesses were cut to pieces and I had coils and CDI boxes and had no idea what was what. I started searching around and found some diagrams and put this together to help me out when I build my harness. Hopefully it will help you out.

Finally!! thank you Carlo! As it turns out my white and reb/black wires were reversed. So now it runs, but like crap. It just sputters and backfires, cant even rev it up. are these carbs tuned for the engine?

 

Your welcome man glad I could help. I know they are very cold blooded engines and take a while to warm up. You may want to let it run for a couple minutes maybe even with the choke on to get some heat in it before you try to rev it. Glad to see you at least got it running.

did u warm it up all the way before u tried to rev it? they like the heat..... also did u drain the fish oil out of it? and put some good stuff in it? what carb did it come with a 22mm clone?

 

I tried my mikuni carb on it last night and runs the exact same way, when your riding it, it will runs perfect for just a split second for every 10 minutes of riding. It will actually let you rev it up and all but its just in very small bursts, very very small bursts. it seems to have plenty of fuel in the float bowl at all times as well.



gonna put fresh oil in it today and seen if that makes a difference, which it shouldnt...

 

Once it's warm, is it idling okay but just not accepting throttle without sputtering/backfiring? Those could be weak spark symptoms, or symptoms of a plug that's starting to carbon-foul but is still sparking for the time being. Sure your plug is good? And all connections are tight?

 

it sputters even at idle.

 

UPDATE: I changed the plug, checked the flywheel key, made sure engine was timed correctly, put fresh oil in, adjusted the carb float to allow more fuel. It still just runs in short little bursts, it just kinda does what it wants too. Its almost like it has a Governor and feathers the throttle by itself.

 

maybee the coil is bad ive had a few that would run but run like crap that ended up being a bad coil if u have a spare or one u know works try it

 

Make sure youre coil has a good ground where its bolted down. I seen it cause problems before.
