Put the rings on the piston, put the piston on the connecting rod, and slide the cylinder down onto the lower end.

I got a set of rings with a comp piston that did not come close to that set up from TBoltusa.com. I had 2 black rings (both with the letter B on them) neither one had a shiny side. I think He may have been also wanting to know where the ring gaps should be.

Your top (compression) ring should have the gap on the top of the piston, your second ring should have the gap placed on the bottom of the piston, and the oil pickup rings are harder to tell you with out a diagram to show you. There are 3 rings for the oil pickup (2 thin and 1 wave) the 2 thin ones should be oriented 30 degrees to the left and right of the bottom of the piston and the waved one with the gap at the top. This orientation will keep fuel from entering between the compression and secondary rings as well as letting the oil pick up rings lubricate the cylinder to prolong the life of the piston rings.
