Great! I worked with a 140 awhile ago, and I keep thinking about doing another one. If I can help ya at all, let me know, as I know alot about these things.

First off-- while ya have the frame stripped down-- I'd have the steering stop made a little wider b/c the 85 forks just kiss the radiator shrouds before they get stopped by the steering stop. Should be easy work for a decent welder.

IMO-- the linkage is the weak link on this bike. It has bushings instead of bearings, and they love to get loose.with wear. If I were doing this bike-- I'd get a shock built (RaceTech) to get 10 inches of travel in the rear. Then I'd limit the forks to the same 10 inches in order to not put the cases into the dirt. I'd see if Pivot Works could do a roller bearing kit for the linkage as well.

Here's my old project bike. Good luck with the build, and keep us updated. --L*64

I fixed the steering stop cut off the foot peg brackets. Then welded on 250 crf brackets fliped the linkage. have a race tec 5.2 spring for the rear kx shock.I also milled the chain guard tabs off cut the stock shifter bracket off along with the kick stand bracket. Then I set it up for a kx 100 stand. Will be using a kxf 250 rear brake pedal its one inch longer then the stock one.I have been reading all the posts I can on this bike.Trying to make it one of the best ones built. The frame is powder chrome color clamps and all the little bits are candy blue.

Heck yeah, been waiting for a good klx140 build thread! I've just started getting serious with mine. I've got an RM85 front end on it, RM85 shock, KX85 rear wheel [Bought the L model, but wanted a 17/14 setup], and I just put an FMF pipe on it yesterday. Looking at a bore kit, head, and carb here soon... What all do you have done to that motor?

Trying to decide what carb. I want to run the airbox. Have a engines only carb but I hear it likes the k/n filter I dont like how the filter fits hits the shock and picks up hot air from the pipe. Thinking of trying a kx 100 carb I have and make a nice boot intake for it. And the open the air box up. Then there is the kx 65 carb that i heard works well. Has anyone tried the kx 85/100 carb. I sure like the way it fits the engines only intake It clears tha gas tank better then the eo carb. I think I have every thing else figured out.

Does the EO carb kit not utilize the stock airbox? I currently run the Keihin 26mm carb kit that BBR sold... It works well for me, but it was on the bike when I bought it, so I can't really compare it to anything else.

For future reference, I did have my stock cam modified by Crower Performance. I think I paid $120... But I really haven't noticed much of a gain. It did improve the performance some, but it's nothing that was really noticeable. Which I was told can be said about the addition of the 160cc bore kit? Supposedly this bored his bike to 160cc and couldn't tell hardly any difference... Any thoughts?

Awesome thread and awesome build. I haven't been on planet minis lately and have been missing out! Everything you've got looks nice, love the clamps and wheels. I'm a fellow 140 guy. I absolutely love my 140 even though she is pretty slow and is quite the pig.

I've got the EO carb along with the FMF powerbomb header and powercore silencer and that stuff did make a noticeable improvement from stock. However the thing is still pretty darn slow but I think a big reason is because its so heavy. I put the KX85 front end on it but still have the rest of the 85... I didn't think that carb would work? As soon as I get some time I'm going to send my triple clamps and hubs to powder coat for that metallic blue look however I'm thinking about just polishing the triples since RV's bike ditched the blue clamps. I've been meaning since A1 to get Magik to make me up some new graphics like the new ones and order the white rear fender. I'm also only running the L rear shock although I've got the 85 shock... I just need to move the L's clevis over to it to make it work.

Anyways, I can't wait to see what you do with the airbox as I'm not thrilled with the exposed K&N filter right above the midpipe either. And are you planning on running a different battery? The stock size battery certainly isn't helping lighten the bike...

*edit* I just realized in that picture I posted of my bike the stock carb is still on there.

Looks good so far. Did you check with Pivot Works to see if they'd do a roller bearing kit for the 140 linkage? Some of those linkage bearings come as bushings stock. Also-- you've gotta limit the travel on the 85 suspension! If you don't-- the bottom of the frame will bottom on the ground. When travel exceeds ground clearance.... uh oh! hahaha!

I'm aching to do another 140 myself, but with a kickstart 150F-- you can do the 230 crank, top end and carb. That puts out 18+ horse with OEM parts. Probably more if you get the Wiseco hi comp piston, cam and port job. While I think the 140 is a cool bike, and has potential--- a built Honda will smoke it, and I race mine in the pit bike races. I don't think even the whole EO setup will put the 140 past 14 horse. When I want to play ride outside of races-- I pull out my 150R.

Keep going with the 140 builds. I've talked to a couple of people about doing a revised linkage for the 140, where it can operate cleanly at the ride height where it would be at 10 inches of travel. If you look at the pic of the linkage I have posted-- there's quite a bit of interference at that level The good thing is that the parts are steel, so they're easily modded and welded. --L*64

I've got the EO big bore kit. I'll show pictures once I get the airbox done. I'm going to go with a different battery. I'm going with Shorai battery and its own custom little box since I don't have the top of the airbox anymore. After I get it all together, I'll probably also try the KX 100 carb I have. I know what you mean about polished triple clamps. I was going to polish mine, but then I noticed Ryan's were blue. Instead, I had them powder coated blue and got them back from the powder coaters and that same weekend he went back to polished clamps. That asshole. Screwin' up my whole plan. I'm leaving them blue. He did the same thing with his handlebars to me. And to think, I had him sign my front number plate. I checked out my ground clearance, and I have 12 inches before it hits the frame rails. Hopefully that will be enough. If not, I will change it. I was going to go with the graphics like you, 731Chopper, but I think I'm going to go with his new graphics instead. If I ever get this one done, lol, I'm thinking about doing a KX 100 with a KLX 140 motor since I have a spare one laying around.

Alright, I forgot a couple of things I'm doing. I have an FMF Powerbomb head pipe. I'm thinking about trying my Two Brothers muffler. Also, I'm thinking about trying the Procircuit muffler so I will have a Frankenstein pipe with whatever I do. If I have to, I'll run the FMF muffler. Right now, I'm waiting on my CDI from Indonesia that my buddy who works there is sending to me. I'll let you guys know how that works out. I should have that in a week or two. Hopefully my bike will be ready for it by then. The one last thing I can think of that I'm doing is I'm running a Ducati start/stop switch I had laying around. That's it for now. I'll keep you guys posted. By the way, I am accepting donations to this money pit of a bike, lol.
