i know that but my class limits what i can run as far as mod parts

I figured...I have a ported stock head, runs great. But the motor is highly modded...

I say go for it, the tak cam is the best for the stock head and if you jet the stock carb up, run a choke plug, shim the needle it'll run great.

You have to remember that you can only take so much material out of the head to open up the ports leading to your valves thats where you will be limited to the amount of air that can pass by the stock valves so what happens on the intake side is that you get turblance and improper atomization of your fuel air mixture which becomes an overload to the head which will actually cause a loss of power a UFlow might be to much.

compound: I have almost the same exact motor setup except a 134 piston and cylinder and have been wanting to p&p a spare stock head I have BUT...I cannot get the stupid thing jetted correctly. Im at a 40 pilot and 85 main with a shimmed needle and it would not idle, I pulled the shim out and played with the air screw and its a lot closer now but still hangs up a little bit at idle. Out of curiousity what jetting are you running? My friend might port the extra head this weekend, if so Ill let ya know how it turns out!

I think AHP ports the stock head and they claim to have flow numbers , mabye he will chime in and let us know because I too have a spare stock head I would like to have him port it, but I would like to know if there is a real gain out of it, or do you need bigger valves to really see the increase of power.

Yes Pax you are right but as you know that when you start changing things for improvement you will lose elsewhere. What the issue is that stock valves are only so big and are going to only flow so much air around them. Yes all those things mentioned will make power (more) but are they all designed to work with each other.

more power is made by increasing the flow of air and exhaust gases , witch allows you to add more fuel for more boom ( and then there are always more displacement) , it is pretty simple , so head porting a pipe , airfilter carb mods or bigger carb, and a cam to hold the valves open longer for more ? AIR ! witch make more? POWER , I would just like to know if you prt the stock head are you doing it any good or are the valves to small to make the diff

I would say less than 5% hp Diff by just porting.

Is that a dyno # ? and 5% is nothing if it is on the dyno , I work on a dyno almost everyday ( Superflow double roller chassie dyno) If i dyno a car at noon when it is 90 outside then I dyno the car frist thing in the morning they always make more power (5%) because the air is cooler .

Still waiting for a real # , tell you what if you can give me a real # that is good ( and you can dupicate that #) and worth the money I will send you my stock head .

I am not sure about others like Pax, etc. but We only will dyno/flow a head after we port it for the customer at a rate of around $80/hr, therefore almost no one is willing to pay for that. I used to have Boyesen flow our heads as we did them 2-3 years ago, (back then a lot of E22, TB crf race heads, stuff like that) but since then I just have templates for heads and use the same measurements depending on the head, thats what our $95 porting job gets you anyway. If your willing to pay more than your actual head can be set up on the flow bench and/or dyno. I am 99% sure I never had someone willing to pay for that on a stock KLX head so I don't have any #'s to show you either for a bike running a stock klx head with a certain pipe, but I do have some happy customers with a stronger pulling engine that I had done stock 110 heads for... you can weed through the porting threads on the forums, there are about 1000 of them.

Have you dynoded one of you stock ported heads?

Save your time and money on the stock head porting unless youre going to have a pipe carb and cam PERIOD

If any of you guys are any good at math, I believe PAX told you that you would only have a 5%hp gain. Take a 5hp engine and add 5% to that and there you guys go. I've done pretty much every possible stock motor combo and the cam, pipe, carb, and 4th gear is the best one.

My personal opinion is the Pro Circuit Ti4 exhaust, and the cam I'm not going to say bc I don't wanna hurt feeling. Just ask!!!
