Is it possible to add an electic start to a KLX 110 and if so, can it be done without adding too much weight?

My 8 year old can't kick past the first compression point. I would love for him to be able to start and go.

Thoughts?

if you can get a ksr110 engine then you can have electric start. Or you can purchase the parts needed. But if you look at the klx110 engine on the left hand side is a hole for a starter. The thing is that the hole is forged with the left side case. So I think you would need a entire new case.

But look at getting a ksr110 engine and components from asia.

the AN110 kawasaki scooter is the electric start version of the KLX110 engine. No I don't think you will find parts or be able to convert your 110 to electric start.

good luck.

the KLX110 is sweet, but for your 8yr old, the TTR90 or TTR50 both have electric start.

Too much invested in the 110 to switch--including a Kawasaki sponsor that has been very, very good to us!

It would be a step back to a 50 or 90 at this point.

I'll just keep kickin' it.

When they go from forward kickers to back kick there's a different technique, and the kids can take a little while to get it.

Try removing the spark plug, put it on the kickstand, and have him get accustomed to the technique of kicking it over. Make a game of it- see how hard or how fast he can kick it over with zero compression. Once he really gets it, screw the plug back in and I bet he'll get 'r done.

Get a decomp lever.

He can kick it, most of the time anyway, but that's not the issue. In a dead engine start when the hat drops he has to kick it in neutral with his right foot, put that foot down and put it in gear with his left foot and then take off. In the mean time the kids on their 2-smokes kick it in gear, with the clutch, in and they are GONE.
