I have been messing around with getting my engine running right for a few weeks now. It really seems like I have a fuel problem and I just need to play with the carb but Im asking just incase its something else. First the bike was really lean so I got a different stock carb that I can adjust and the guy says it had a #60 jet in it. Im going to change that back to #58. The bike starts fine first kick. I adjusted the idle down and let it warm up to take it for a ride to see how it runs. It warmed up just fine but when riding it really seemed to sputter and almost surge then died out after about 5 mins of riding and now wont start. Im thinking its to rich now and its flooded but I was looking for any other ideas. The spark plug is black btw and the o ring going from the intake manifold to the carb is pretty bad so I need to replace that too. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I think the ****ty o ring which I cant seem to find a replacement for anywhere is causing enough of a leak to be a problem and I think it being about 25 degrees out here isnt much of a help either

Try to solder or crimp the wires. Wire nuts aren't meant for motorcycle use. You can get water in there and mess everything up. Plus crimps or soldering makes the wire job look a lot cleaner.
Im planning on using waterproof butt connectors for the final project but right now Im just trying to get my bike up and running. Do you guys run hose for the crankcase ventilation when you are using an aftermarket air filter or do you guys just leave it venting out the little fitting on the case?

I have that little hose still attached to the case. I forgot which company makes it but, they make a sweet looking filter for it and longer hose that comes out of the back.

I finally got her running nice today. It took some work and wrenching but it was worth it to finally go riding for a little bit. I know I got to do some tuning still I want to find just the right idle and I think I still might be a little rich a little white smoke comes out of the muffler at full throttle. Now its time to clean her up and start modding . I got a big bar kit already and a new chain and need to take care of the rear shock and maybe a new swing arm. These things are a blast

The rings may be on there way out if there is white smoke coming out of it.

I didnt even think of that. Should I do a compression test to see if they are still good? The engine was supposed to be freshly rebuilt but who knows. Its not clouds of white smoke though I thought Im just a little rich and because it was so cold out

Was it smoking when it was warmed up or still sort of cold?
