Best Built-Up Motor

We are real new to the pitbike scene so I don't know much about these motors, Just what I have read in the big MX magazines. One month ago, I didn't know CHP, Trailbikes, Big Minis, etc. even were in business. Went to my Honda shop and got something out of a book and we bolted it up. Forks, Shock and engine. That is how we started; just something to do between racing his KTM65.

We have built up a BBR 106 kit motor and would like some opinions on it and other motors. My 10 year old son is not happy with the motor as it bogs on low end and sometimes it sputters also, although that happens less. The sputtering happens only some days. (yesterday it cost him a win at Webb's race)

I want too build a safe, reliable, ridable bike. He likes the top end pull of the 106, just not the constant playing we need to do throughout the day with the carburator to get it too run its smothest. So what I am asking, is there other kits that work much better. I have a Kitaco clutch kit(the 950dollar one) but have not installed it yet. Will this make a difference? Will an ignition swap help? Is this problem fixable? Do I need a different kit?

Help please! No I do not care about money, but I don't want to buy a 3000 dollar engine either! ANY VENDORS that can help, email me and we will talk. I need to get this fixed for the East Coast National that run on the 18th of October!

BBR's engine parts probably will do the job fine. It sounds to me you have carb issues. What carb do you have on the bike? What exhaust do you have on the bike?

Unless you want to bore the cases for a 54mm cylinder and go with a 117-124cc engine and drop some $$ into more displacement, keep what you have and look into a different carb.

I have a Mikuni VM26 carb that came with the kit and the new BBR D2 pipe.

I have tried the 140,150,170, and the 190 main jets, the clip in various positions, and 20 , 22.5 and 25 pilot jet. Right now I am using a 22.5 and 140 main with the clip in the 4th from the top. air screw about 1/2 out. It might run a little rich with this setting. A little black smoke comes out when we gas it when we are just warming it up, but so does my CRF 450

I change the clip position a lot throughout the day. Up and down from 2-4 position. Some times the bog is terrible, as when we twist the throttle fast, it will die. Sometimes we can turn the throttle fast and rev it hard for 2 seconds and turn it off momentarily (like one second) and back on and it dies. any suggestions?

A VM26 with a 106cc displacement is too big unless you are road racing. I would strongly encourage you to drop down to a 24mm carb. You probably have a ton of low end bog and then it cleans up in the upper RPM range.

Yoshimura 24mm carbs are the best available on the market, bar none.

The 106cc kit should be putting down anywhere from 9-10.5 hp depending on the state of tune and supporting componentry.

Last night I talked to BBR and talked to Brent Brown and he thinks we have an air leak in the manifold. He is going to send us a new manifold and carb to try and thinks that from what I told him this will fix our problem. I cant thank the guys at BBR enough. They have been very helpful and they really go out of their way to satisfy a customer. They were as concerned as I about my child getting hurt and I thinkthey really stepped up to the plate!

They have told me that the 106 kit is a great bolt on kit and that they have had a lot of success with it straight out of the box. They also said we shouldn't have a bog, and that the wanted to get to the bottom of this. My hats off to those guys!! I am glade that the money I have spent on my bike so far has benefited these people!! They are true racers and they have a customer for life!!

You can polish a turd anyway you want to look at it, but a VM26 is too big for that 106 unless you are road racing. A 24mm Mikuni or Yoshimura carb will tune and run much better.

BBR is a great company, but their private line of engine parts are completely overrated and overpriced compared to other offerings in the market.

Get ahold of Mark @ AHP minis. For some reason I think Tyrone is right by where he lives(from memory).Bring the bike over to his shop and he will get it going for sure.Weather that means tuning the carb thats on it or throwing a 22 or 24mm carb on there he will get the job done 100%.I ran a 24mm carb on my 108 and it worked great.

Yeah...I think you have everything you need for a great setup (carb excluded) but you just need to get it all dialed in better. Don't buy anything more....unless you want the carb.

As for your clutch kit its a great upgrade, but it won't make your engine run any better. I had the Kitaco Ultra Clutch on one of my engines at it was awesome. Just get it tuned right.

I got a 24 mm Kehin carb from one of the companies on here. Still bogs a lot and doesn't seem any better. stock brass (35 pilot, 95 main) and tried neddle in different positons. runs best with the neddle all the way down and the air screw turned all the way in. Otherwise if I just blip the throttle it dies. So I am thinking it is real lean. Any suggestions??

 Where your carb settings are right now makes me wonder as your going in two diff direction . The needle is all the way down as this will let less fuel into the emultion tube . But on the other hand , you've got the air screw all the way in which is cutting off the air into carb so it will use more fuel .

From my personal experience with this same senario , I think your still way over carb'd .

I went thru a similar situation with my Kitaco 106 set up .

I tried a 24mm Shengyway carb that ran great up top but bobbled really bad from a stand still . I had smaller pilots to try but no smaller mains at the time . The smaller pilots didin't do any good .

I gave up on try'n to tune it but I knew I needed to try a smaller main but never persued it again cause it's back to an 88cc motor .

I called CHP , which is where I get my stuff from and was recommended to go back to my 20mm Kehin for the dirt . I did .., and it worked flawlessly !!

I see where your confusion is. I have the needle in the lowest clip position, which would make it richest setting. Sorry about the confusion. I think it is still over carburated for the kit. I listened too everyone on here and they said go to a 24 mm and it will clear up. Oh well, live and learn. The bike runs much better than with the 26mm, but not to my satisfaction. thanks for the info.
