I'm new on here and this has prob been covered already but I have a stock 110 motor with the exception of a cam, pipe and some holes drilled in the airbox. I am now wondering would it be worth putting on a mikuni 22mm carbs ? will this add much power for me or since I still have the stock bore would this be a wasted mod?

Or is there other mods I can do to help the stock motor perform better without wreaking the reliability? Thanks

I'd say it would be abit of improvemnet, but you will invest alot of money on parts in between where you are now and where you really want to take it. So my advice is to just think ahead and try to spend money on parts that will keep you going ahead and not need upgraded in the build....you will only spend more if you keep having to upgrade ie:carbs/displacement/gears/clutchs/pipes/suspention.....etc. Try to find good used parts when possible. Keep an eye in the classifieds here. Or ask for parts in the vendor area. Planet Minis has the best vendors in the minbike world with most competive prices.

BTW....welcome to planet minis. I am sure you wil be taken care of.

Haven't actually got the 140 carb on yet-- it comes so that you can't adjust the mixture screw a la EPA... I've got to have my friend get the screw out with an EZ out, then I was going to use the slotted adjuster screw from the 110 carb. Without any adjustment, I'd never get it jetted right. I'll let you know though. Anybody able to post a link to that 22 Mikuni off of Ebay? ---L*64

Yeah! I'd be interested in hearing how it works. It seems pretty cheap though. I think I saw it for $29.99 earlier today when I looked for it on Ebay. It just seems like you can't get a quality carb for that kind of money. I'm pretty sure the KLX140 carb has got to be almost $200 from Kaw, the stock clutch and choke cable work on it too. You probably have to use the 110 carbs' float bowl though. --L*64

Got the carb today, bolted right on, the gas inlet is smaller then stock so the gas line is a bit big , I used the stock gas cap line with the valve deal to downsize the hose. Started right up and had much more crisp throttle responce. I can't really test it out since its dark here now and I live in MN where we just got 5 inches of snow so trying to find a dry patch on the road to give it some gas is no where to be found. Tomorrow I'll play with it some more and try to see if there is a power increase other then throttle responce.

i also said china carb not jap.. those $30 carbs off ebay are junk, IMO.... but who am I....

those are as "real" as Pamela Andersons whooo haa's

I'm with you on the cheap carb must be junk, but it says mikuni, do you think some how they are still a rip off carb? says mikuni and japan right on the carb?

I was just thinking it must still be better then the stocker carb, who knows.

Rooster828,

I'm thinking about putting that exact 22mm Carb on my KLX140. You said that it '...bolted right up...'.

Was there anything that you had to tinker with, other than using the Gas Cap Vent Tube for a fuel line?

Did the Throttle Cable match up OK?

I appreciate your input. That same Mikuni is available in a 24mm... but I don't want to hurt the Bike's low-end torque. So I'm thinking that the 22mm would be about right to open up the top-end, without too much loss down low in the RPM range.

Again, any other details on the installation would be helpful. Thank you...

Where the carb bolts to the manifold it is not threaded like a stock one so you need to use a nut on the carb side. Other then that the float bowl even cleared the valve cover bolts. So really other then the smaller inlet it really bolted right on, the throttle cable fits fine and works well. I used the stock carb cap just for a quick install but yeah it bolts right on fits and even the stock jetting seems to be working but I'm about to go out and put a new smaller clamp on the gas line and tinker with it and see if i can find any downfalls, I'll post again later.
