For those into big bikes, most know the new honda crf's come with a tiny steering damper stock. Everyone (except Josh Grant, he says he cant whip or turn with it on the bike) Loves them and would never trade them for anything. I was able to get one of the dampers that was practically brand spankin' new! Heres my little write up from TT.

I just got a factory Honda steering damper from a friend off of an 08 crf250. I got it mounted on my yama-pinger tonight. I havent heard anything bad about the damper from anyone but Josh Grant (he hates them and says he cant turn the bike or whip it over jumps). It seems every one loves them no matter what type of riding.

I have one question for the people with crf250's. Where the do you run the clicker at on it? Just looking for a starting point.

here are some pics of the mount job...

ive only heard good things about it,i think as long as u run them soft setup-not stiff it would be fine, ive riden with a scotts steering and didnt like it stiff but didint really notice it soft so,good luck..

only time i like the scotts or gpr stiff is when ur riding desert or really high speed enduros. Takes so much head shake away and keeps u pointed straight in 4th gear lol

I just tapped the steering tube (its about 8mm thick... hope thats enough:confused:) and triple c.

I had to get the right hight of the top hole... I have an extra hole I have to plug eekkk... and make sure it was spaced right.

I will for sure let ya'll know how she works :):):):):)

and I have no idea on the price of a new one... mine was a freebie! :)

I dont have any experience with dampers on MX bikes, but the Scotts damper on my R6 worked wonders on some of the choppy commuter roads around here in addition to keeping the front end tight under hard acceleration ("floating"). If you decide to keep it, I would strongly suggest you getting those mounts welded in place, maybe even add a small horizontal gusset on the head tube mount.

Looks good, lets hear some feedback from your next ride!

Just what is it that your trying to eliminate or reduce by adding a damper? Wouldnt this only be needed for very fast tracks like desert or something? I have been riding big bikes for 16 years and never used a damper. I do remember some of my older CRs had bad head shack which I guess this controls.

I havent ridden a new 08 honda with the damper (which have the damper Im using) but from everyone that has ridden with it, they ABSOLUTELY would NEVER RIDE WITHOUT IT.

I have yet to hear that someone of my speed doesnt like it. I also love to ride woods and they say it really helps when you hit roots are square edged bumps.

I will definitely keep yall updated with how she runs.

Sweet i want to try to put one on my 07 ktm 250 sx-f, i have felt the dampers that come on the '08 hondas and they are not like the gpr, and scotts units, the honda units cranked all the way up only dampen very slightly, and for motorcross with there new triple clamp off-set it works great, thats why they went to it.

Yeah I really want to know how this works on a bike that it wasnt designed for. Because the way I look at it I have a 450SXF that needs one... an '06 CRF450 that needs one... and a KLX110 that needs one. lol.

My bro just bought an '08 CRF450 and I havent rode it but playing on it in the driveway and on the stand it feels ok, and I like how its hidden. I have to take it for a ride one of these days though.

But anyways yeah keep us posted!

the new honda damper was because they went more aggressive on the chassis this year and with the new off-set triple clamp like ktmrider173 said and the damper it helps balance out the more aggressive chassis...it also only starts to really work when you get 5-7 degrees into turning the bars...but i can say without a doubt you can notice on the new Honda's there awesome
