If it were me.... I'd remove the 12 way plate, then use a cut off wheel and cut the manifold right above the base. Position the carb in the spot you need it, probably where the cable can fit between the frame and tank. Then mark the base and pipe part of the manifold. Remove everything and have someone weld the manifold back up.

I did this one mine and works great. The 12 way plate is probabyl raising it up too much. Add the 12way plate and heat insulator under the manifold and I'm sure it's way too high.

Cutting and rewelding worked for me! Here's a link to another pic I have of the manifold. Link>>>http://www.planetminis.com/f14/petcock-peeves-98070.html

Don't mean to hijack, but this is an interesting comment, because I just asked a welding/fab shop about doing this to my intake and they said they "couldn't do it" because it was "pot metal" and you could tell because "it had that casting seam down the middle."

I thought this sounded like a load a crap. Haven't asked elswhere yet, but plan to. So be advised; might be worth getting a couple of opinions if you go this route; I'm coming to think fabricators put on the "No" helmet to turn away small jobs like this sometimes.

I thought just about any metal out there could be welded by some method or other...?

Well, a friend of mine owns the welding shop so if nothing else I'm sure he'll try. I guess the other thing is that it doesn't work the way it is now either so the only thing I have to lose by trying is the resale value of a used manifold.

Ok, so I have my manifold cut and I'm off to the welder today. He's actually not sure whether or not it can be welded - apparently there are a lot of imperfections and contaminates in the cast aluminum which cause the metal to pretty much disintegrate when the heat hits it - I'll let you know.

In the event that this doesn't work, does anyone know if one of these will fit?

eBay Motors: Honda ATV Fourtrax TRX 125 TRX125 Intake Manifold (item 130286981944 end time Mar-11-09 22:12:42 PDT)

I think that is the perfect shape for what I need as it has the offset so that the top set on the carb should clear the frame, but I don't know if this would match up with the mounting holes on one of the mini engines.

I don't know if a TRX 125 intake manifold is the same as one from an ATC 125M, but I think it's basically the same engine. It's offset to the rider's left, and pretty long. I bought one used to run on my hardtail Z50, and it is too long. The carb would barely fit without an air filter, because the filter end of the carb is right about up to the left rear frame loop.

On a softtail there's no such frame loop, but there is a that sidecover back there...If you can wait a day or two, I'll test fit my spare motor into my empty softtail frame and let you know.

Ok, so the manifold is back in from the shop. Apparently it welded with no problems whatsoever.

To give myself a touch more clearance I got the guys at the shop to mill the bottom mounting plate as well, taking off about half the thickness.

The carb mounts well now, I still have a slight issue with the petcock but I might be able to get around it. Does anyone know offhand whether or not the choke lever will need to be all the way to the top for the enricher circuit to be opened? If not, then I'm probably in decent shape the way that this will mount now.
