INCORRECT orracle

(Those guys racing) you are spot on....synthetic oil is NOT GOOD with a dirtbike

you can use off the shelf castrol 10-40 or 20-50 for 3.00 a quart and be bomb forever
+1. I use off the shelf Valvoline or castrol 20w50. Didnt realize synthetic was chit untill I took my bike to Shawn with burnt out clutch discs where he finally knocked some sense into me to use the cheap stuff. My bike's been running well ever since.

Corn oil works as well:lol:

thats amazing, I raced my 170v2 with and s35d, and nothing but hd springs for an entire season. and beat the crap out of the clutch, guess what. My fibers had no measurable wear at the end of the season. My crap full synthetic oil must really suck:rolleyes: I love how every time these threads come up everyone is a suddenly a genius on oil, because there bro told them what the best oil is. I realize everyone has there own preference on what oil they like, and there is nothing wrong with that. but if you wont to come and tell me i'm wrong take the time back it up with some real data. Unless of course you cant...

I'm not saying that synthetic is bad, I've been running synthetic on all my bikes for years its only when I took my bike to my mechanic that I was told synthetic was bad for minis. I've benn running Valvoline 20-50 for well over 6 months no problems to speak of. Although I have no logical explination to this, all I can say to back my post is my mechanic told me so. And I believe him cus he's a good friend of mine and not only does he make a living off minis, he runs that oil himself. Ask Gary (sik tendencies racing) he's shaws partner and he should have and explination for you.

Here we go again. If anyone cares.

The reason synthetic may not be good for these little motors is probably because of their nature of not being very well built. Meaning that the tolerances are loose. Synthetic oil has a very small and uniform molecular structure that will allow seals and joints to leak. Dino-oil has large and non-uniform molecules which allow it to dam itself up and not leak. The problem areas I see with Synthetis would be valve seals, and crank seals. Either of these could leak and cause problems. Other than that Synthetic oil is superior to Dino-oil. I'm not sure about Synthetic's ability to absorb bad acids like Diesel oils, but if you change it like you are supposed to it doesn't matter anyway.

BTW I use straight 30w Diesel oil that we put in out tractors, or 15w40 Rotella if I have it.
