okey dokey, here's the official 78 stunt z buildup thread.
i guess first i'll give a little background on the concept behind this build. i have been stunting a crf for a couple years now, it has a tb 88 racehead motor in it with stock exhaust with tip. love it, but its too loud for my neighborhood so i got the idea to build a 2nd stunter with an 88 stage 1 kit, as i find myself sometimes wishing my crf was'nt so twitchy, i figured the stage 1 would be perfect for slow speed wheelie combos, circles, etc., as well as be quiet enough to cruise the hood without pissing anyone off.
turboglenn's girl has a lynx 50 with the 88 light bore and its a blast to ride, so i figured i'd try using a z instead of another crf to build, just for the sake of doing something different. the bike is being built using parts off of 3 different z50a's. here is the bike that the motor, rear fender, and fork tubes came from. you may recognize the bar setup, it is now on turboglenn's z. i am to blame for the retarded paint job, i was bored and had some spray paint laying around.
i don't have pics of the bike i cannibalized for the frame, tank and swingarm, but it looked like it had been pulled from the bottom of a swamp after being ridden across the sahara desert.
the front fender and big bore kit being used on the bike have been taken off glenn's bike right before i gave it to him, haha.
so since my build is almost done, i figure i'll just post up one part of the build once a week or something until reilly is done with his bike.
so this week i guess i'll start out with the tank. for paint i used duplicolor silver metalcast paint, duplicolor black, topped off with puff can clear coat. real auto clearcoat to be applied later
here it is stripped, you can see some dents needing attention
here's some bondo madness
and now for some primer
base coat
some accents and i painted the gas cap with duplicolor metalcast red then clearcoat. the silver lines on tank were freehand taped, they actually came out pretty symetrical
i decided to get wacky and try freehand pinstriping for the first time, put the red pinstripes on top of the silver
here is the tank after glenn hit it with real clearcoat with a drop of metallic green mixed in
