I'm pretty new to the pit bike scene, and I was able to pick up my SSR 140TR from Vince over at TBoltUSA. I received it and set up the bike. I changed the oil and followed all the instructions on ensuring proper setup of the bike. Once I set it up, I had a hard time getting the engine started and to keep it running. I did some research and found out the carb can have some debris in it from shipping. I took the carb out and cleaned it. I rehooked everything up and was still having difficulties. I then located what I believe to be the idle screw on the carb and turned it all the way in. I then turned it out a few screws, and sure enough, the engine kicked over and stayed on. This must have been the idle screw because when I adjust it, the idle goes up. With the help of a friend, I was able to turn the idle down just low enough so that it stays idling without sounding like someone is opening the throttle. Needless to say, I was very happy!
I have attached a video of the engine idling. For some reason, it still sounds a little sputtery to me, and the engine sounds a little loud when close to it. I'm not sure if this is how it is supposed to sound or not.
Perhaps I need to find the air screw and play with the air intake into the carb? Again, I'm pretty new to this stuff so any help is greatly appreciated. Any ideas on maybe I missed a step? I have currently only done about 2 heat runs to make sure the engine gets broken in properly. I wish to do a couple more today and possibly get the bike out!
Thank you in advance for any help!!
