Oil cooler dilemma

Hey guys, im pretty new to the pit bike world and i had a question that i was hoping you guys could answer.

I recently inherited a 1974 Z50 with a 100cc Lifan motor and some extra parts from my father. One of the parts he included was an oil cooler setup. I went to install the oil cooler but ran into a small issue. The adapter plate for the cooler does NOT look like the cover that i took off of the motor. The OEM cover has a hollow dowel that appears to possibly be a support for the right side of the cam, but the new adapter plate does not have this. To me it doesnt seem safe to run this cooler but i'd like to get opinions from people who have been in this game a little longer than me. Here is a picture of what im talking about:

China side on right. Honda style left. It doesn't need an oil cooler either. That motor will be just fine without it. Nothing but extra weight. Put that stock side cover back on. Change the oil often like you should and it will run for a nice long time. Relax and go ride it.

Sick, thanks for the reply. The only reason i wanted to throw it on is because the Vegas summer is approaching. But i'll just continue to stay on top of oil changes and get this thing back out on the dirt.

[h=1]Oil Cooler info - TBolt USA Tech Database![/h]Oil coolers are a performance accessory
Pit bike engines only hold 900ml of oil (less than 1qt) and may run hot after 1/2 hour of hard use
Using an oil cooler can help lower the overall engine temp and keep engines from overheating
Most Pit bike engine will not require an oil cooler
50-110cc Honda and China Motors have not required oil coolers but you can run a cooler off the head using an oil tap head plate.
125cc GPX and Piranha 140cc Can run a cooler off the head and Piranha 140cc has the oil tap head plate stock.
YX150cc YX60cc ZS140cc Lifan 140cc and ZS155cc all REQUIRE oil coolers or a jumper line added to the case / clutch cover oil taps

+1. While it is true you don't need one for cruising around, short periods of hard riding (like racing,) or in cooler parts of the country, the place you DO need one is larger displacement engines ridden for sustained periods, in high ambient temperatures. In other words, you and your buds are killin it in the high desert, riding on a +100 degree day, for a good hour or so, and someones clutch starts to slip badly...that guy needs a cooler. I have had that scenario (with exception of being in the high desert,) happen to me. I run coolers on most all my bikes. Sorry, not sure whether you can use the Honda style plate, but here is a reasonably priced one that appears to be the right one:

Does all newer 125 engines have an option to run an oil cooler?
