OK... This is the first time I rode my 65 since the thing threw me off of it back in January-- twice! I got to spend some time on it tonight.

I took it a bit easy for awhile-- I just worked on figuring out when the power was going to come on and such. I was not trying to loop out like I did the last time so I was just easing over the jumps at first. Bear in mind, I haven't done anything to this bike other than a PR2 set up Fox shock, Moose footpegs that are off set a half inch back, and a set of Cannon Racecraft fork springs. Besides those items-- it's bone stock.

After awhile-- it started to feel pretty good. By the end of the night, I was riding it pretty well. I've ridden and raced two strokes before as an 80 rider in the '80's, and a 125/250 rider in the '90's. I'm still a bit timid on it, but I'll get it down eventually. I let some 110 guys try it out, and they kinda came back saying that they didn't like it. I think a two stroke takes a refined riding style.

The verdict? Well-- I'm going to keep riding it stock for awhile, but I have some mods in mind like V-Force reeds, Pro Circuit pipe, some porting, and a flywheel weight. I have to say-- the suspension is awesome compared to my 110, and the bike feels feather light too. I'd highly recommend the PR2 Fox shock to anybody interested in a KX65 pitbike. I could be happy with it the way it is, and I have less than $2000 into it. I'll probably keep working with it to keep making it better yet. The suspension is great-- I'd like to make the power more seamless though. I'm not sure that I want to ride my 110 anymore. --L*64

65's are insane....

my boy's 1st 65 was the kx I got a him KTM shortly after....

I raced the kx one night in one of our fun races and ended up seizing the crank, boy was he pissed....

but yes you gotta get the feel of the power on either of the bikes, the ktm isn't as violent but it can still be.... :D

a cheap mod for the kx is to get your squish down around 28 by shaving the head...

or shave the bottom of the cylinder which changes the port timing giving it a harder hit straight out of the bottom instead of that mid hit...

Sand Rider-- Why are you selling your 65? Keep it and ride it!

I'd bet I'll have this bike down within a few weeks-- I just need to stay off of my 110's and just keep riding the stroker. I could do better, but I'm still injured from when I crashed this bike last time. I hurt my rotator, and I can ride, but it hurts.

The suspension on this KX is amazing. The brakes too. It makes working with the motor worth doing. It's feels like the 125 of pit bikes. I need to ride it some more to hit the jumps like I do on my 110. I'd like to see some more guys working with 65's so we may see some progress made in the direction of making them rideable for adults. --L*64

I'm not sure about those cartridges, but you can get 'Zokes now for the 65 for about $750. I weigh about 150, and with the Cannon .36 springs, I haven't noticed any rebound issues yet. I did have a problem when I used the .43 MBS springs though. They were too stiff for how the rear shock is sprung. I think the stiffer the springs are-- the more the rebound issues. If I do anything else to the front, it'll just be to get the damping rods welded and redrilled, then maybe some different weight oil. Like I said-- the suspension on this bike feels great so far compared to my 110.

As far as gearing goes-- I was just running the stock gearing for now-- I may change it later, but for now it seems OK. Anything more will be just fine tuning.

Wheelbase? I have no idea... I'd check out Kawis' website for the specifications. ---L*64

Hey Tony:

I just now have my motor run in from its rebuild.

Stock piston.

Millenium cylinder plating!!

Intake/Exhaust porting, I did that......

FMF Gold Series pipe.

V Force reeds.

Stock Exhaust can.

The power on this is STELLAR, when it comes in its soooooo smooth, it just plain pulls for ever now from the mid range, and then at the top its falls off and simply shift if need be. Extremely predictable power:cool: No more light switch going into the power band!

This thing is a beast now:D

The more I ride this KX, the more I like it! Not only that, but I was planning on a ton of engine work, now I don't feel like it needs too much. Just some porting, a set of V-Force reeds, and a Pro Circuit pipe. That's about it-- it's a sweet ride, and I really haven't ridden my 110. I guess after you ride a two stroke, that's all you'll want to ride. I have about a thousand less into this bike right now than my modded stocker-- it's crazy fun too. --L*64

Yo Tony contact slide1in he might be able to get you an FMF......... I really like how the FMF gold series works with the V-force reeds prior to the porting, now that the motor is fresh it feels super smooth. I did retain the stock can......

The power is not like a light switch and its not twitchy, its just super smooth and has plenty of mid range.

If it stays dry for the next few days i'll have a dirt report for you:D

Oh, are you riding that bike in the dirt too now? Sounds good.

I was going to have Gene at High Tech Horsepower cut the cylinder to lower the ports, but now that I've gotten better at riding this thing, (now that I'm running the right fork springs, it doesn't want to loop out like it did with springs that were .07 KG too stiff...) I'm just going to have Gene do some porting, maybe shave the head just slightly, V-Force reeds, and they have a pipe mod that seems to increase mid range.

Check out Cams' site. He dynoed the FMF and the PC pipes, and from what I can see-- it looks like the PC pipe was alot better.

I'm wondering if I can get the 65 into the pitbike races. It isn't an advantage over the well built 4 strokes, or even my nearly stock 110 motor that just has a clutch and 4th gear drum, but it's way cheap, and fun to ride. I don't see why they wouldn't let a guy pick up an $800 65, throw some springs on and run it. Like a "Recession Special"! When I was at the local pitbike track last night, more than a few dad's were watching me have myself a ball-- very enviously... A few of them were saying, "Man-- I'd like to get me one of those-- what did you do to the suspension to get it to work?". --L*64

after reading your ride reports and how stoked you are on your 2 stroke its getting me more and more excited for my kx 82 2 stroke build... i cant wait to get it finished! i hope i can have an even balance between riding that bike and my modded 50.. but from what you have said I am going to have more fun on the 85...

2002XR-- Yeah! I've been having a great time riding my 65 even though it bit me good and hard the first time I rode it. The 85 will be fun, but it's like a big bike kinda. The 65 is pit bike sized. When you ride the 85 on pit bike tracks-- it won't be as much fun as the 65 will be. The good thing is that you can ride it on big bike tracks w/o any problems, and you can bolt on a KX100 top end. For somebody who has limited two stroke experience, the bigger bike is safer for you to ride than the 65 too. The 65 takes a little seat time to get used to it, but once you do, it's a ball. --L*64

Awww... I assume that you're talking about my shock. If I sold it, my 65 would be junk then. You NEED either a shock, oor somebody to do something with the stock shock in order to get a 65 to work for an adult. Unfortunatly, my shock isn't for sale at this time.

The good news is that you can call Chris at PR2 Racing, and he can set one up for you, and it will probably be in stock too. They run 4-500 bucks, but are well worth it. Once you start to get riding a 65 down, you won't want to ride your 110 anymore! --L*64
