They are stiffer side to side to keep you ankles in one piece, and most have a steel shank in the sole for jumping purposes. Takes a little getting used to, but doesn't every piece of new gear? I've never seen any "budget" boots....what are your ankles worth?

I have the Thor 50/50's. They are not as comfortable as tennis shoes, but pretty close and they offer a lot more protection. They are a lot more comfortable than full size mx boots.

i just bought me a pair of thor 50/50s for riding my 50 and possibly the quads. haven't rode with them yet but i think they might be nicer then my thor quadrants for my 250f.

 

I bought a set of A-Star Tech 2's but I sent them back. I read all the horror stories of people trashing their ankles so I decided to run my A-Star Tech 7's for racing the grizzly 660, 50, and 250f.

Garne makes great boots, but I've never seen their half boots anywhere other than their website.

 

thor 50/50s are the most comfy pitbike boot, but from looking at it, its aparent that it offers the least amount of protection. i love my slammers, but if you want real protection u should wear full mx boots.

I ride in SG-10's. Snapped my ankle off about a year ago, have a plate and 7 screws holding it all together now, took some getting used to but love them now.

It definitely takes some getting used to riding with big bike boots, but there is SO MUCH MORE protection.

I owe it to one of the guys on this very forum for convincing me to stick it out with the boots. I had bought slammers and had a hard time shifting with them, and really wasn't liking them. Was at my first track day on the mini, and took a pretty decent spill. I've had the tendons in my left ankle destroyed twice, and it was sore for a good month or better after the crash. I'm convinced if I hadn't been wearing 'em it would have been another trip to the ER. OK, so I'm prolly a little big for a fifty at 6'3", but it's gives me cramps after a while when upshifting in my slammers. How the hell do you pull it off in big boots?

Try rocking your shifter up a notch. I have to do this on everything I own. I ran 50/50's with ankle braces and still keep twisting ankles so I went back to big bike boots. Having to call your boss cause you got hurt on your pitbike blows.

Its not that bad, just takes some getting used to. AFTER ALL I'M 6'4'' WITH A SIZE 12 SHOE. Aftermarket pegs, shifter, and brake pedal are a must along with a bit of patience, but unless you want your leg to look like this you can make do:

Point well made. 50$pit I do have all the aftermarket stuff (pegs, shifter, etc) I'll try moving my shifter up a notch.....duh, why I didn't I think of that before. LOL

 

I run my shifter in stock position, if you have it up there is a good change you will accidently down**** when you don't mean to. Just my .02 though, you may have better luck w/it.
