Awesome thread and awesome build. I haven't been on planet minis lately and have been missing out! Everything you've got looks nice, love the clamps and wheels. I'm a fellow 140 guy. I absolutely love my 140 even though she is pretty slow and is quite the pig.

I've got the EO carb along with the FMF powerbomb header and powercore silencer and that stuff did make a noticeable improvement from stock. However the thing is still pretty darn slow but I think a big reason is because its so heavy. I put the KX85 front end on it but still have the rest of the 85... I didn't think that carb would work? As soon as I get some time I'm going to send my triple clamps and hubs to powder coat for that metallic blue look however I'm thinking about just polishing the triples since RV's bike ditched the blue clamps. I've been meaning since A1 to get Magik to make me up some new graphics like the new ones and order the white rear fender. I'm also only running the L rear shock although I've got the 85 shock... I just need to move the L's clevis over to it to make it work.

Anyways, I can't wait to see what you do with the airbox as I'm not thrilled with the exposed K&N filter right above the midpipe either. And are you planning on running a different battery? The stock size battery certainly isn't helping lighten the bike...

*edit* I just realized in that picture I posted of my bike the stock carb is still on there.

Looks good so far. Did you check with Pivot Works to see if they'd do a roller bearing kit for the 140 linkage? Some of those linkage bearings come as bushings stock. Also-- you've gotta limit the travel on the 85 suspension! If you don't-- the bottom of the frame will bottom on the ground. When travel exceeds ground clearance.... uh oh! hahaha!

I'm aching to do another 140 myself, but with a kickstart 150F-- you can do the 230 crank, top end and carb. That puts out 18+ horse with OEM parts. Probably more if you get the Wiseco hi comp piston, cam and port job. While I think the 140 is a cool bike, and has potential--- a built Honda will smoke it, and I race mine in the pit bike races. I don't think even the whole EO setup will put the 140 past 14 horse. When I want to play ride outside of races-- I pull out my 150R.

Keep going with the 140 builds. I've talked to a couple of people about doing a revised linkage for the 140, where it can operate cleanly at the ride height where it would be at 10 inches of travel. If you look at the pic of the linkage I have posted-- there's quite a bit of interference at that level The good thing is that the parts are steel, so they're easily modded and welded. --L*64

Luckystar, Engines Only claims it can get just over 15 horses with their full kit. ENGINES ONLY DYNO CHARTS DYNO

But, yeah, that's still not much considering the bike is so heavy. I wish there was a kick start option to get rid of the heavy e-start battery along with some aftermarket aluminum to replace some of the stock steel parts.

I've got the EO big bore kit. I'll show pictures once I get the airbox done. I'm going to go with a different battery. I'm going with Shorai battery and its own custom little box since I don't have the top of the airbox anymore. After I get it all together, I'll probably also try the KX 100 carb I have. I know what you mean about polished triple clamps. I was going to polish mine, but then I noticed Ryan's were blue. Instead, I had them powder coated blue and got them back from the powder coaters and that same weekend he went back to polished clamps. That asshole. Screwin' up my whole plan. I'm leaving them blue. He did the same thing with his handlebars to me. And to think, I had him sign my front number plate. I checked out my ground clearance, and I have 12 inches before it hits the frame rails. Hopefully that will be enough. If not, I will change it. I was going to go with the graphics like you, 731Chopper, but I think I'm going to go with his new graphics instead. If I ever get this one done, lol, I'm thinking about doing a KX 100 with a KLX 140 motor since I have a spare one laying around.

Alright, I forgot a couple of things I'm doing. I have an FMF Powerbomb head pipe. I'm thinking about trying my Two Brothers muffler. Also, I'm thinking about trying the Procircuit muffler so I will have a Frankenstein pipe with whatever I do. If I have to, I'll run the FMF muffler. Right now, I'm waiting on my CDI from Indonesia that my buddy who works there is sending to me. I'll let you guys know how that works out. I should have that in a week or two. Hopefully my bike will be ready for it by then. The one last thing I can think of that I'm doing is I'm running a Ducati start/stop switch I had laying around. That's it for now. I'll keep you guys posted. By the way, I am accepting donations to this money pit of a bike, lol.

Sounds awesome. If you get a pro circuit silencer I'd be interested to hear how well it couples with the FMF powerbomb header. I hate my silencer and wouldn't mind going pc even with the fmf header.

Hey Chopper. Your bike is the one that gave me the inspiration for this build. If you notice in my pics, I spun the choke lever around so now all you have to do is barely reach in on the right side and you can use the choke. I'll also be calling Magik on the graphics. Don't beat me to it!

I wouldn't go as far as doing a conversion, the 140 already has a fairly capable chassis, with bodywork that's more modern than what the KX comes with. The rear linkage is the weak link on this bike. I WAS kinda thinking about reconfiguring the rear of the KLX frame to accept a KX85 swinger and linkage with an aftermarket (most probably RaceTech) shock. Take some measurements to see if the KLX and KX swingarms are the same width at the front, then again at the rear where the wheel bolts in.

Also-- There IS a kickstart setup available on the Thailand KLX125 or 150. Here's a pic of it. I may get a 140 for my GF in the near future so I can "experiment" with it. If I can ditch the Estart, and do something with the rear end-- I'll definitely build one myself. --L*64

Thats a good idea on the choke because it is a pain to reach in the default position.

Luckystar, I remember reading that before when I first got my 140 and was doing some of the mods. Do you know if there is any way feasible to get ahold of that lower end and/or motor here in the US? That bike has cooler plastic too but it looks like the frame is different... do you know what the differences in the chassis are?

By any chance are you talking about "Automotives Parts Shop"?

www.automotivespartsshop.com
I don't think that's the one. My buddy is working in Indonesia for 2 weeks to a month and then goes back home to Australia. I know he's picking it up in Indonesia, but he's sending it from Australia. He has one on his bike that he has in Indonesia. He said it was one of the best mods he has done. I borrowed my buddy's Procircuit muffler today. It looks like it won't be hard to adapt over to the FMF Powerbomb. It actually lines up perfectly; it butts right up to the FMF Powerbomb. It looks like I would just need to add an inch and a half for the slip fit.

Cool.

Mmmm. I don't have any connections in Indonesia myself, but I would talk to Service Honda and tell them that you need some parts from a Thai or Indonesian market bike. They MAY be able to get it. I would try to just get the kickstart parts, and the RH engine cover. You can probably get the microfiche for it. If you can get the part numbers-- you can get the parts from Indonesia or Thailand.

Any chance of measuring the front and rear of the KX and KLX swingarms for me? If not, the guy across the street has both, so I can prolly go over there with a measuring tape. I'm thinkiing that you can just do something with the KLX frame to accept the KX parts. The rear wheels are the same on both bikes, along with the brake parts as well. You guys are making me want to do one!! --L*64

Next time I'm at my track where my bike is at I will take some measurements of the swingarm.

Really the only thing I don't like about my fmf silencer is the way it looks... which is horrible! It looks like it belongs on a damn 1999 kx250 or something. Blake has got an FMF silencer on his that looks awesome. I don't know why mine looks like it does, I ordered it directly from FMF.

I think maybe you got their old style pipe. I just ordered one from FMF a few weeks ago and it's the same as Blake's.

No new pics of the klx yet.i took my spare motor and frame to my buddys place and he's building me the airbox. Then I went by an old buddy's place, and he threw this in the back of the truck for me. What should I do? I might try to put my spare KLX 140 motor in it. If someone wants this, they can have it for $2500, no negotiations. It's a full-framed bbr 125, BBR big bore kit and carb. It runs well. It just needs a little TLC. The plastic is brand new. It also has a hydraulic clutch and dicks suspension work. Hopefully I will have more KLX pics early next week.
