Wanted to show you guys a couple builds I've done, and currently working on, for my first post on here. Amazing how much work can go into such a small bike! Apologize for the lack of detailed pictures, as I wasn't planning on doing a write up on the whole process. Picked up 2 barn CT70s from a guy with big plans for them. Here they are when I got them.
#1 wasn't in too bad of shape but still a lot of rust plus a motor that wouldn't turn over. Plan was to make it look fairly stock but with a bigger engine. This meant powder coat and a Lifan 125.
After powdercoat.
WELL WHERE DID THAT COME FROM??
Got it back from powdercoater and I guess only looked at one side of the frame and didn't even notice what looks like a bullet went through the frame. First instinct was that powdercoater did something, somehow to really screw up and put a hole in the side of my frame. Went back to my photos and was able to see what looked like bondo on that same exact spot with a slightly different shade of paint over it. Guess the sandblasting just tore the bondo apart. Anyways now I had a big problem on my hands and wasn't too sure how to go about it. The part that worried me was this hole was right on the crease in the frame and I was thinking "how in the hell could that even be fixed without looking like garbage?" Ended up taking it to a sought after hot rod shop, Roy Brizios, here in the bay area with low hopes they'd be able to do anything. But if anyone was going to be able to fix that, it'd be them. Seriously, look them up and see the work they do. After talking with the body specialist there, he said he thought he'd be able to make something happen. Needless to say, came back in 2 days and it looked great. Obviously had to get it powder coated again though:roll: Sorry, no pics of how it looked after he worked his magic.
And the final product..

Ended up selling #1 because I got pretty deep into my wallet for the #2 build. Sold it to a guy that was buying it for a friend back in Germany.
#1 build
For the most part, a lot of the parts were just cleaned up and polished or spraypainted. The wheels were spraypainted with a duracolor autozone paint that is almost identical to the OEM Honda Cloud Silver. (forgot the exact name of the paint but could find it if someone really needs it)
As for build #2, Im going for a much more custom look. Build #1 felt a little bit too easy for me, dropping in a motor, painting it and its ready to go. Wanted to spend some time doing #2 to build some sentimental value so I don't end up selling this one too:laugh2: Even fewer pictures on this one, sorry again...
Pictures don't do this paint job ANY justice. It's a prismatic orange and has a perfect sparkle to it. I'll get some better pics up tomorrow. I wanted to make this a little more rider friendly for me, 6'5 200lbs, as build #1 with stock springs felt kind of sketchy. The Lifan had good power and pulled wheelies pretty good (major plus) but for lack of a better phrase, I could feel the China in the engine. Decided to go with TB parts 108 kit with roller rocker valves, Mikuni VM26 carb, yoshimura upsweep exhaust, tall bars, 4 speed manual, inverted front forks, and the upgraded rear shocks.
Outer cases powdercoated black along with the cylinder and head spraypainted a matching black. Tbparts oil cooler painted black with the orange studs powdercoated orange. Sanded and polished the engine fins. Have some more pictures to upload! Engine going in tomorrow. Still some work to do on it but will be updating this thread regularly! Happy to answer any questions about fitment or details on any of the parts used.
