Hey fellas greetings from across the pond

The reason for my post is I think there's something goin on you guys should know about ... A dealer from australia has taken it upon himself to rename our sport for us ... that's right he has decided he doesn't like the term mini's or 50's etc ... and decided we'd be better off naming after a ciggarette so he's gone for " superlights "

This from his sight

The Industry – Superlite

Superlite is an emerging niche in the motorsport industry which Smith plans to develop into a professional sport and industry in its own right. He also aims to expand Superlite into affordable adrenaline sport which the whole family can enjoy through the Braaap club and community group facilities.

The term “Superlite” originated from Braaap’s desire to rebrand the industry and create uniformity. Superlite bikes have been referred by many names, including “bikes”, “pitbikes”, “thumpsters”, “minibikes” and “50s”, none of which Smith considered empowering or a true reflection of the sport which they represent.

Smith’s primary concern with terms such as “mini bike” or “pit bike” is the misassumption the bikes are small or a refer to a secondary level sport.

“Superlite riding is a full on action sport in the USA they have the Mini Moto SX, the largest Superlite race on the planet with up to 800 riders, and 10,000 fans. It’s a big deal. People ride Superlite bikes exclusively because they are high adrenaline, they are affordable and they are accessible. Superlite is a rebrand of our industry to bring not only an empowering brand to lead the sport but a professional look and feel that this great sport deserves.”

— Brad Smith.

Ok here's the thing ...not only is this arrogant I think it's disrespectful to you fellas ... we had a mini's years before he came on the scene but you guys were years ahead of us so if anyone has a right it'd be you fellas not some 23 year old kid from Tasmania .

Anyway now he's selling bikes over there here's a link

Link removed.http://www.braaapusa.com/shop/bikes

I reckon you guys are smart enough to work it out just watch the vids ... but notice he never mentions his bikes are made in china but you only gotta look at em to see they are.

Anyway guys look forward to hearin ya thoughts on this name change thing ... I can tell ya most of us Aussies are off it except for the braaap posse of course.

Dreadful

Was funny at Vegas last year he was doing an interview in front of a camera crew, I was walking by with some Austrailians that flew in to race ( one won a championship in vegas and the other was second fastest qualifier in the 12e) about the time this guy was claiming to be the Austrailian mini champion, Our Aussie rider walks into camera view and ask him "What championship did you win?" " You are a self appointed Champion", then the guy gets red faced and yells cut, and ask us to move along,, Our Aussie riders laughed and said both of them had beaten this guy at every race they went to.. They said he is a self promoting %#@*!

I personally do not know what was actually going on in the Austrailian Mini scene,, but was still funny at the time.

"Superlights" ah thats not as bad as "pikebikes" but in my eyes "Minibikes, 50s or fiddys" are the OG names and have stuck through the years

yer pitbikes is way outdated like who beside pros are aloud to ride a minibike around at a race meeting?..... no one

50's / minibikes is the only way

this guys seems to be making headway cos he just signed MICHAEL BLOSE to the braaap team , seems like a shady guy never says anything about the bikes being made in china , only time will tell

Yeah he's got his logo on the flyer too ... and yeah with Blose onboard he might just get a win ... but it won't change the fact that Blose will be on a china bike with a yx150, a 200 kit and some suspension that he's charging 6g for ... like I said you guys can work that out for yourselves but if I was going racin in vegas I'd get something else ... probably have some coin left over for strippers as well ... well maybe not but I still wouldn't spend 6 grand on a china.

Good stuff lol

Name it what you want but you cant bring pit bikes from the dead to the level it was on a bad day in 2004. Most guys have passed on from pit bikes like most pit bike companies have exited having a business at all.

If you want to find where all the pit bike racers have gone simply go to your local RC track and you will find them battling it out with the RC Trophy truck addiction.

Im interested to see how many people actually race at the Mini Moto this year. Will Mini Moto go the way of the US Open? guess May will tell us soon enough!

Sad but true. If renaming to Superlites would bring the sport back, I say go for it. But it won't. Those who left should come back, those who aren't riding minis don't know what they are missing!

to be honest theres no name that thats going to change anything but if someone wants to add to the list of names these bikes have, its there right!! lastly if some is trying to push and build the mini scene in his area let'em, theres always so many haters. who cares, pitsters are made in china but theve worked hard through all the nonsense to become a legit company.

I don't see any need for a name change. If he wants people to 'respect' the racing, run respectable races. Wrap it however you want, most mini/pitbike racing is outlaw style in that there are minimal if any rules and people are banging bars for fun. The majority of us don't WANT all the BS that goes with 'respectable' mainstream racing.

What we need is someone like Burner that puts on minimadness and TGR and a few others that put on mini SX at milestone , those races were awsome everyone had a blast big turnout the tracks were unreal ,and best of all it wasn't $100 a class , if we could get a few more races like that a year I think it would get everyone back out.

WOW the bikes the USA get dont even come from china & i quote

"Designed in Australia, manufactured by a French company and assembled in the US

(not to mention parts sourced in Italy, Canada and Japan), braaap bikes tap into the

best of the best designers, engineers and manufacturers from all over the world"

if that aint bullsh1t i dont know what is

Well fair enough but he's not trying to "tack on " another name he is trying to rebrand the sport and install himself as the savoiur / godfather of the sport and I don't believe that's anyone's right ... his plan is to make the names mini, 50 etc dissapear alltogether. If he accomplishes this anything not branded superlight will be pre history and of little or no significance. You'll notice he says

" Superlite is a rebrand of our industry to bring not only an empowering brand to lead the sport but a professional look and feel that this great sport deserves.”

Well who's brand is he talking about ?

He's already bought superlightstv.com and who knows how many other domains ... make no mistake this about building his company not the sport. After all his mentor is Tony Robbins.

As for comparing him to Pitster ?

Well pitster at least let ya know the bikes are made in china and are'nt charging you 6 grand for one so I'm not sure if it's the same.

Like Hillz said this is pure b.s ... he get's em out of a crate from china and put's the front wheel and hangers on like everyone else.

The one thing I don't get is he thought you guys were stupid enough not to notice ?. Anyway overall you guys seem to be on the same page as us over here so I doubt he's gunna pull it off and in my opinion that's a good thing.
