so im getting ready to do my 143 big bore and while studying the factory service manual...

the only thing that has me a tiny bit worried is the camshaft chain tensioner removal/installation...some of it could be the engrish in the factory service manual or maybe im reading into it to much??

for those who have removed/installed one, how bad is it really?

thanks!

Its easy, everytime you take the motor apart the tensioner needs to be reset, just take the 10mm bolt off of the top of it, get a small flat head screwdriver, you may have to grind on down to fit in there, and screw the tensioner all the way up and it will lock in, then take the 2 8mm bolts off and pull it out. Now when you put it back in just drop it back in there and put the 2 8mm bolts in, and then take your screwdriver and turn it out and its spring loaded so it will automatically go down, thats it, dont tighten it anymore, it will adjust its self, and then put the 10mm bolt back in the top and your done.

I hope I covered everything and didnt make it sound too complicated b/c it really isnt.

So when you put it back in and tighten the 2 8mm bolts down, all you have to do is release the tensioner (via screwdriver) and it pops down and self adjusts?

I take it you will feel or possibly hear when it releases?

Thanks for the help, the factory manual nukes it and makes it confusing, to me at least.

you will hear it. and before you put the cam cover on you can poke the can chain with something and see if it moves--- if it does then the tensioner didnt release, if it doesnt then you good to go.

Dont worry about the spanglish in the manual, its really easy and straight foreward.
