anyone else have a cam chain problem where it falls off on the flywheel part. I've worked on the motor a bit and when i put it all back together and take it for a spin the chain will come off.

its not anything to do with the spring or tension, it is in the cases. I have had his bike apart a few times anf I don't get it the chain always falls off of the crank sprocket, and ussaly you have to pull the side cover to get it back on. no one else has had this happen?

The chain could be twisted from the first time it got pitched. Did you try a new chain?

No way should that chain come off unless something is wrong. Either the chain is twisted or stretched, or the tensioner is not working properly, or you have a warped or bent gear.

its weird because once the chain is on there is does not come off, it is just when you are setting the timming, you have to hold the chain tight when putting the head back on because if you let it lose then it falls off. I think that it is somthing bad from yamaha, because it did it the first time I had it apart, probably a bad gear or something.

With all due respect Joe....It sounds to me like the slider

( not the tension er ) is not in the proper position in the case. If it was the chain can't come off....It is trapped on the gear. You need to install that slider with the side cover off to insure that it is in it's slot in the cases.

The head should already be on when setting the timing ! You just rotate the chain around the cam gear till everything lines up.
