Build up Honda or Get GPX?

My honda currently has a shaved flywheel and a tb hd auto clutch (basically, its ready for a big bore).

Should I spend the money hopping it up with a big bore, or go for a $400 gpx with a manual clutch.

A gpx would have a bit more power, plus a manual clutch. Would the honda be stronger and more reliable?

Looking for lots of bottom end.

has proven it's durability. .
I'm sure I'm going to get jumped all over for this post but I disagree thats its proven its reliability, its only been readily available for about a yr.... and people have had tranny problems, mine was a bastard to get into nuetral

I had one, and it was a good motor, but I disagree that its reliable, or durable

in a couple yrs if some of the first ones over here are still running with minimal maintanence, then they can be called durable

well I have one of the originals 1dwn 3 up and have had it running completly stock for almost 3 years now. yes some have had tranny issues but did you know my brand new honda crf50 took a **** in vegas and I have it on video! I mean it had 2 rides on it.

Definetly stick with the Honda, it will make more power, more reliable, and way more upgradable than a GPX. Its just plain and simple the smarter choice.

Why were you on a Honda when you sell the GPX? The GPX is a good motor but I would build a honda if you can.

I would get the gpx. I have one and this thing hauls. I have two friends in I am geared high. I am about even 1-3 but then I hit fourth and pull on them hard. If you were geared maybe around 14 it would haul so much ass. You can't beat the price. I also think there is still a fair amout of upgrades you can do, just its not as much bolt on kits. Look at rk I think it was. He had a 153 and now a 180ish gpx/lifan combo.

maybe it wasn't broken in yet. Racing a brand new engine in vegas without breaking it in probably isn't very good for it.

Smarter, but in now way CHEAPER.

The only thing that makes a modified Honda motor more reliable is the tolerances in the bottom end are tighter than the china motors. Once you change the tranny gears, put on a manual clutch, and stroke and bore it you don't have HONDA reliability anymore. You have a/m reliability.

Yes, an unmodified Honda crf50 motor is very reliable and will give you years of riding but it's not putting out 8hp either. I am in no way putting Honda down cause I love my little z50 motor w/ 88 kit. The motor's a 92 and the tranny and crank have never been touched. I put a xr70 clutch in it b/c the original was slipping but that's all in 14 years.

because I cant ride a gpx in vegas in the stock class! So I have a stocker just for that.

Oh i thought they were talking about a stock GPX and a built up honda. Not a stock 50 lower end holding up.

Alright, I just told another guy this recently, if you are going to race and need a fast bike bigger than 88cc, keep reading. Either way I believe the honda motor is better but, you cannot beat the performance and price of the GPX. To build your honda motor to be fast and beat a GPX you are going to need at least a manual clutch and good bore/top end kit. And a transmission would help. Basically if you want to have the best motor stick with honda and be prepared to spend 2 to 3 grand on it. You want fast motor cheap, the GPX is the only way to go.
