Top Speed on my ride

My engine is a Chinese 86cc in stock form with the following mods:

16t front sprocket

31 rear sprocket

rear tire is 21.5" outside diameter

Kitaco super coil

Advancing CDI

Ported and polished big head

custom cam

106cc

Mikuni 24mm flatside carb, 27mm intake

classic honda ultrapipe

Bike is setup for street.



My GPS said I was doing 72, my speedo was pegged on a slight downgrade. The RPMs were not racing, but didn't have anymore to give and the clutch was slipping bad.



I will soon have 138ccs, shaved flywheel, 28mm flatside carb, and a race head and we'll see what happens.

If you are only getting 42mph, jump up to a 16T front cog for street riding, and a 35T rear. You'll get an easy 10mph more, add street tires, and you'll get a couple of more mph.

 

Well ya, the big bores aren't really made to get top speed. Most 50 tracks are pretty tight and flowing. Actually a couple of 88 kits i've ridden have less top end than my 50, and mine only has a Fast 50s pipe.

Not a true statement. It all depends on how the bike is set up. If the bike is set up for dirt, it won't be optimal on the street for high-end speed runs. If it's set up for the street, it won't be optimal in dirt.



Mine happens to be a dedicated street cruiser, and is set up for high rpm street use where speed is a determining factor. All that's needed to run my bike in the dirt is to change the front and rear sprockets, and tires and I'm good to go.

 

ok, sorry, i should have said, "the 88 kits that i have ridden do not have much for top speed" But z88, ur right, they were for dirt.

partially true, most bore kits will rev slower than the stock 50cc bore/piston, but the lowend power is waaaY better. thats when you regear the bike and use the lowend for higher speeds. once you do that the bored motor will be much faster, all around.

Uhhh no, practically all bore kits will rev faster than the stock 50cc bore/stroke, and just have more power every where, so you can regear the bike with taller gearing to take advantage of that newfound power.

 

when i first put my 88 on it definitly reved faster simply because it could pull me around better. but it did not rev as freely (high) as the stock bike did, so it actually went a little slower top speed wise.

I got 45mph out of my bike with:

Crower cam, piston, and cylinder

20mm carb

15/35 gearing

home-ported head

and that's with a fatass riding it :lol:



I want to upgrade to a .260 cam soon because it feels like the top end is kinda flat, it has great punch down low though.



I feel like it could easily pull a 16 tooth front sprocket too



I'm contemplating on building up a xtreme that I have laying around into a supermoto bike, it did about 60mph(16/37) with a 150lb rider on it, but the speed probably wasn't very accurate, he was riding next to a honda civic. So I wonder how fast it would go if I did some motor work?

 

My stock geared Xtreme did 50mph on the rev limiter measured on GPS, so I doubt the 16/37(stock) combo did a true 60mph unless you modified your CDI. 16/36 will give you about 53-54mph.

I have had all of these bikes bikes exceeding 90mph. They were on a trailer though.

 

This one guy used to come by the shop with a champagne gold Suzuki Katana that had a license plate frame that said "Life begins at 160mph." We were all like "he hasn't lived yet because that heap wouldn't go 160 if you threw it off a cliff in a tornado..." hehe!

My 72cc 1 down 3 up with a clutch toped out at 49.5mph with my bike spedometer and goin past one of those cop speed checker things it said 50mph so the bike speedo is pretty close this is with the stock rear sproket and a 14 up front. Might i add my stock CDI box. I know if i got a rev box id get alot more out of it.

 

47mph on my xr70 with a exhust and ported head. no other engine work.

 

stock 110 T-4 pipe, i would say around 55 mph
