Hey all, we got a virgin to the site.

Been looking at previous threads regarding the gearing of the CT70 and it seems they have all been an addition to engine mods. I am wondering if I can get away with swapping out the front and/or rear sprocket with out any engine modifications to give a boost to the top end. I am only 170lbs and I have to shift to second at around 5-10mph. It has a three speed auto clutch right now but I am also wanting to swap it for a manual 3 or 4 speed. I can't stand shifting from 3rd gear down to second and then first with all of the engine braking.

To come back to the engine mods and my lack of mechanical skill, I would consider swapping out for a larger carb but am intimidated by the big bore kits.

Any opinions on the gearing, clutch, or carb/big bore would be much appreciated. I just want to be able to drive to work on a country road that has a slight incline and instead of going 40mph and holding up traffic, be able to keep up and ideally speed around 50mph on the flats. Although I know that is a lofty wish considering my lack of mechanical skill, but I do have my lightweight and crotch rocket poise on the bike going for me.

Thank You!

You can successfullly pop a 16t on the front of a finely tuned stock ct70 and gain a little extra speed and usable gearing. As for the enging braking...don't bother...run it in third gear until 10 feet away from your stop sign and shift back to 1st. No reason to do engine braking if you don't want with the autos.

Won't damage the bike...but I suspect youwon't be any faster than a 16/35 setup at the end of the day...while the rpm will be a little lower, you won't achieve RPM and you'll lug uphills more.

If you don't want to get into the motor...I suggest a better intake manifold, 20mm mikuni carb with open element, and a better exhaust and a cam. It will make a significant difference.
