I'm going to install my big bore kit on my 110 this week and I was just wondering if it is worth the trouble to go ahead and install the 4th gear shift drum? I have the tools and skills to do it myself so all I would be out is the $69 for the drum and gaskets.

It would be dumb not to. If you have the money and you can do it, than why not.

Im actually going to see if a machine shop can turn my stock one into a 4 speed, as the one from Two Brothers is made out of aluminum and Im not sure how well they hold up.

are you shure the cases need to be split ??

im not 100% shure myself but if im not mistaken i dont think they do :)

i would only reccomend the 4th gear if you are doing alot of motarding!!

from what ive heard its useless unless your doing 40+ MPH alot, just dosnt have any pull in forth any slower than that!!

You can install the 4th gear without a gasktet set if you don't tear any of the gaskets as you take the motor apart....It' easy to do but you need the right tools for the job...We use a Mag puller that Classic Honda sales and a case splitter .....We can do it in about an hour once the motor is out of the frame....Be carefule and watch were everything goes when split the cases !!! It's good to be able to go to a parts fish and check out how everything lines back up when you are putting it back together....Pull the top end off and drain the oil and send it to hammerheadmods.com and we will install it for you !!!! Good luck, d-hammehread

I havent used my 4th gear on a mini track yet I always use it on the vet track cuz its wide open.I dont think its needed unless you riding supermoto,or vet,or bigger tracks,I got a stroker put in my motor and since it was apart I had it thru in just to say I have a 4th gear that i dont use on the mini track I barely get out of second and third.if you spit the cases yeah do but if not then dont do it later if you decide to get a stroker or break the countershaft.

If you are going to be splitting the cases you might as well just throw in the stoker crank, the takegawa close ration 4 speed tranny, a shift star, and all of the other aftermarket business so that you only have to tear your bike down once!

I just dropped my bike off at imxracing to have them install the 4speed drum and hydo clutch. Can't wait to play on the motard track!!!

The case splitting is really easy and the Trail Bikes drum is what I run, as it is steel. None of your gear ratios change, but you get another whole gear.... this does allow for more gearing options when motard racing. the close ratio 4 speed trans is really just for dirt use.... The stock ratios are great for motard use. When you put your 4th gear drum in, you will want to use a "bump-start" device or do your own work to eliminate the neutral safety switch that picks up from the end of the shift drum on the left side of the bike. The aluminum drums don't always allow for a good contact, so the result is total loss of spark.

Even if I only rode on tracks that allowed me to get into 3rd, I would still stick 4th gear in it, since the jacking around when not racing is priceless...
