Found a good deal $550, and the Kid has been begging for a dirtbike for months. He's an only child and not a spoiled brat so, I thought Hell.. why not.
His birthday is Nov. 24th so, i have some time to play with it. Also after spending the cash i dont want him to throw it down and cry to Momma when he gets hurt.. (hes gonna get hurt)

First order was the blown out rear shock. 16yr old PO was riding it.
This will be his first bike. I wanted it to fit, Adjustable 10.5in installed. Inseam measurement, and my math, put him almost flat-foot when stopped.
$30 well spent. The progressive spring is nice even for my 250lbs fat ass.

During this process, i drained the yellow fuel and cleaned the carb. (air filter fell apart in my hand)
Lack of filter and trash it runs better but, either the mixture needs to change or the valves need adjusting or just throwing a filter on again.
The idle is fine until you give it throttle, then its high or ready to die off.
I want a low/constant idle in Neutral. I dont want it to jump when he throws it into first.
I would also like the throttle to return spring to be stronger.

Pod style Filter? Jets? Valve Adjustment? Professional Tune the carb? Prob time for a new Chain too?
Stepmom crashed into my Father's truck too.. (broke her hand) I now need new Grips..?

$15 Stickers from Ebay's... you get what you pay for.
Heat Gun, Razor blade and Hard squeegee.
Worth the time and $ I think. I would also like some racing numbers... 07 for his 7th bday. Where can i find them to fit the below space?

Valve adjustment done
UNI Disc filter installed in the OE Air box (Disc style bc Amazon sucks at descriptions)
New spark plug (Old plug was very rich)

Fires up instantly every time. But only wants to run under half choke.
Also ive read I need to roll the throttle... Quick snaps just bog.
Jets or Play around with the needle more?

Sounds like the carb is partially clogged on the pilot jet circuit, and needs to be cleaned with contact cleaner and compressed air. What is the air screw setting, out from seated? The off-idle hesitation when "quick snapping" the throttle is usually a sign of a lean condition, the air screw needs to be turned IN to richen the mixture.

Thanks for the response.

I removed the carb and cleaned with can carb cleaner when i first got the 70.
I will have to inspect the pilot jet again to be sure.

Screw setting is all in then 1.5out and a little more out where idled better.

Try a 1/4-turn IN at a time on the air screw, and test riding the bike to see if the hesitation lessens. If you get to within a 1/2-turn OUT from seated, you should try the next bigger pilot jet, reset the air screw back to 1.5 turns OUT from seated, and then dial it in again.

2nd that on the air screw, PO would have messed around with it because the air filter was cooked..

To tune, turn idle screw in till idling high then turn the air screw in all the way and turn back out slowly till you get your highest point of idle then back the air screw off about an 1/8 turn and then back your idle screw off till she idles nicely.

Tried adjusting the carb and while it idled better and had a crisp throttle.

It was very down on power.

Pulled into the garage and Rode my Harley home.
This morning there's a huge puddle of fuel under it.

So now.. rebuild the carb or Buy a new one?

is the pilot jet pressed in on that carb? if not you could go up a pilot size regardless possible two. if its pressed in the smallest guitar string will fit through the jet to clean the passage out. the 19mm carb is a good upgrade for the 70's and its more of a benefit to due together (father/son) moment and he'll appreciate it.
