Ive been searching and reading and searching for a good way to convert the front drum of my 2010 KLX100L to a disc brake. Everything I've read was either unclear or clearly written for the KLX100 (not the new L model). Most of the posts I have read are more focused on improving the suspension, and with the suspension upgrade comes the added benefit of disc brakes. Since I have the L model and don't jump it or do anything too rough with it except play around in the trails behind my house with my kids, I really don't feel the need for an upgraded suspension, although in my case the disc brake upgrade may have the added benefit of an improved suspension. So far, all I have learned is to stay away from mountain bike brakes, and that a new hub, & forks will be required. I wish there was a wheel/fork/brake setup that could fit my stock triple clamps, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

I don't want to spend a ton of money, so BBR stuff, zoke forks, etc are out. I'd like to find some stock pull-off stuff on eBay, Craigslist, another PM member, etc. I was considering going with used a KTM65 fork, front wheel, and brake assy. Everything I have read so far is either unclear, or clearly talking about the regular 110 (not "L"), so here are my questions:

Will the KTM forks be a downgrade, the same, or an upgrade from the "L" forks?

Will I be better off using KX60 forks? KX65? Or something else (CRF150 maybe)?

Are any of these fork setups taller or shorter than the stock "L" setup I have now?

Are there any fork & wheel assemblies (with disc brakes, of course) that will fit my stock triple clamps?

If not, is there a triple clamp available that fits the forks AND has a same legnth & diameter steering stem to fit my frame?

If not, will I need a set of custom sized bearings to make the triple clamp work?

If not, can I press the stem out of my KLX "L" triple clamp & install it on the new triple clamp?

Is there a better way to achieve my disc brake goal?

Buy a kx65 front wheel and brake setup make a custom mount to hold the caliper and make spacers for the wheel your gonna need to bore out the L fork lugs to fit the 65 axle. gonna take some work but will work perfect, if you decide to buy ktm forks your gonna need to buy a rear end to make up for the raised front end.

Didn't someone make a disc kit where you got a new hub, spokes, rotor, and the bracket for the caliper was some deal that clamped on to the fork tube? I was trying to figure it out, but can't remember who did it.

Im trying to find the same thing out. I have the L and really just want a front disc brake. I dont mind buying a kx65 front end but then wont I have to upgrade the rear? Or no because the L already sits higher than standard 110?

I have a buddy wit a big wheel TTR125, I can see if the axle size and fork spacing is similar to the klx110. My gut tells me that they're not going to match.

EDIT: one of you guys do me a favor: measure the free length ( front end totally off ground) of one of your stock forks from the center of the axle hole to the top of the fork. I've got a set of kx65 forks sitting on my bench right now, we can find out about fork length. Granted, there are supposedly two different lengths of kx65 forks, and I don't know which I have, but its a start!

My 2010 KLX 110L stock front fork free legnth is 26.5 inches (67cm) from the center of the axle to the top of the inner fork tube.

The BBR E6 forks will work on the 2010 model, and I know BBR had a disc setup available for them, but it was super expensive. I think with the L model-- the E6 forks may not be quite tall enough. I'd use a shorter shock anyway, as it seems like the L model is jacked up too high in the rear the way it comes stock. --L*64

Some interesting info: the distance between the inner fork tubes on a new TTR-125 is 117mm, which is quite close to the the measurement I got on my KLX110L. The fork length is 29.25", only 2.75 inches longer than my OEM KLX-110L forks, but that was measured on the ground, not on a stand. Still, only an extra three inches might be something I can work with!

Yeah, you're right. I wonder how much difference that extra 1.5" will make? Either way, I need to fink a KX65 fork, wheel, & brake assy. I just need to know if the KX65 setup is taller, shorted, firmer, of softer than the 110L setup...
