most people dont know why, they think it makes the motor run cooler! But it doesnt!!!!! It all has to do with heat dissipation from the core (the white ceramic part around the electrode) to the plug case (the metal threads). The lower the number, the deeper the core goes into the casing before connecting with it (hints less heat dissipation). the higher the number the more the core is in contact. The difference between a 6 a 7 and an 8 isnt (usually) noticeable by eye.



A cooler plug makes for less of a chance for pre-ignition (yes, not detonation)!
