Mine should stop that and catch the chain. I can still change sprockets easy too.

I had it WFO in second gear when the CS sprocket basically fell off the shaft. Nothing broke. Not even the stock uncut ignition cover. I just took the chain off the rear sprocket and rode home Fred Flintstone style.
But for most people, I think the chains come off because the swingarms have such a huge attack angle that they need to run them loose so when the swingarm compresses the chain won't break from the tension.
