...but hold on tight - just fine on glass smooth roads, but not recommended on anything less. :grin: Felt like 100mph. 
I ended up with the 17t counter sprocket and 28t rear. The 17/24 rear maybe would go a little faster, but only under perfect conditions and it took forever to accelerate. The loss of "rideablity" on it was noticeable.
The 17/28 combination is very usable in traffic, it held a steady 40mph up a slight grade in fourth gear which really surprised me - I was expecting 25mph in third. That little thumper has surprisingly good torque.
Lots of "full sized" bikers (or should I have said PLUS sized) pointing and laughing. Glad to have entertained them for a while.
