I wonder if the head would hit the front wheel under heavy braking???

I saw this article awhile ago and have been thinking about making one ever since. Any one interested if i make more than 1??

It seems like a better route than the xr100 for me because of cost and mods available. It seems hard and a little expensive(compared to buying a Lifian or GPX, ect.) to track down a decent xr100 motor. Mods for the xr100 seem more expensive than mods for the Lifian's and GPX's as well.

i feel the same way about findign a decent xr100 motor. dont get me wrong abotu the xr100 motor. but i am haveign a hard time findign a decent xr100 motor for under 400. then i would also have to pay for shipping and a carb and a a harness and then i would be into the motor alone for 600 or more. and if i wanted to bore it i would have to spend a few more hundred. im going home try it out.

I'll let you know. I have several XR80/100's and I'll have a new YX150 in a week or so.

The XR 100 is limited by the head, for sure. Depending on displacement class, it can be very competitive. I use the 80 bottom for the 1.5lb lighter crank, better gearing, and price;)

all i really need is for the motor to be able to hit 80mph at max so that i can keep up with traffic going 60mph and still have a little more to go just incase i need it. so a souped up xr50 motor should be more then enough.

cr80 motors are easier to find but are more expensive cause everyone wants those motors. plus i kinda want a 4 stroke as the power plant.
saw one a couple of years ago a guy put an rz350 motor in. looked cool dont know how it would of been to ride. didn't someone put an xr200 engine in one?

there have been a bunch or cool mods over the years. the biggest motor in a ysr is a yz400f bored out to a 426. i wanna do a motor swap without any cutting and welding of original mounts or brackets. i can fab up a braket for the xr50 motor no problem. so until i find a diffrent motor i guess im gonna do the xr50 motor.

I had talked to Joe Lanza about the xr50 YSR bike and the front tire hitting the head was an issue for racing but it sounds like it was a fun bike to play around with. An XR100 motor that is in good condition is going to be $500 on up, but its worth it when you consider the performance advantages. I put one in my NSR and I have been pretty happy with the power so far but have yet to take it to the track and see how it does.

I did a 118cc 80 with bored cases, sleeved jug, porting, Web cam, lightened crank and FW for well under $500. My Lifan headed 55.5x45 110 class XR80 motor is almost complete and should be a contender for cheap. If there's no limit or for a streetbike, a 200 or 230 would make good power though.

I'd love to put an RD125 twin in a YSR, for a little howler.

i'd love to check out that nsr of yours sometime and see how you did up the brackets for the 100 motor.

Here are a few pics that show the brackets, they were pretty easy to make just took some time to get them lined up perfectly. I am pretty happy with the bike so far, I just need to get the jets dialed in and I should be good to go for some track days.
