That's $4500 in today's money. That guy's losing his ass.

The 2007 Honda Monkey is 215,000 Yen. Add about $300 for overseas shipping and they are only about $200 more then they were 4 years ago.

Problem is now with the EPA involved and the changes in laws, I won't ever import another new bike again.

I was kidding. It was a reference to the plummeting value of the US dollar.

so bringing one over is still cheap but impossible to make street legal? Is that what you are saying Dan?

Nothing is impossible, but getting caught during the importation process is a 10,000 fine and you get to send back the bike to Japan. You have to deal with US customs, the EPA, the US DOT and NHTSA.

That's the bike I have, but when I bought it new in 2003, those bikes were 2100 shipped to my door from Japan. That's quite a tidy profit margin he's got going there and they hard to make street legal since they don't have a 17 digit VIN. Mine was a pain in the tail, and I'll never do it again.
