I have a tb 88 kit with the stock head and i ran it for a day and it didnt run well at all. Besides the oil leaking which i cannot fix, it was popping and backfiring. Is this because if the stock carb? Do i have to get a new carb for sure? What else do i need with this kit to make the bike reliable again unlike it is right now?

Fix the oil leak.
Check the cam timing. Sounds off.

sounds like a head gasket. get a new gasket kit and toss it in there.

First off, take care of the oil leak! Please explain "oil leaking which i cannot fix"... Where is the leak?
We need a bit more info on the engine/carb. What year? Adjustable needle? Stock jetting? Fuel screw setting? Newer carbs (late 2005 and up) some of these settings are "non-adjustable"... but there is a fix to be had....

My friend has a TB 88 stock head kit and running a stock carb on it. The thing back fires all the time, definatley get yourself an 18 or 20mm carb.

Lap the mating surfaces. I bet your **** is warped, not a big deal at all.

Make sure you torque the nuts on the head down enough.
