Were do I begin,

I have a 6yr old doing really well on the ttr50 in mx racing.

When I mean well I mean I have him racing the KTM Pro jr's sr's and cobras on it and averages 4th out of ten. I always give him big congrats because I will tell him to turn around at the finish line and count how many orange bikes are still comming.

I tell the parents that the poor fella is out there jumping a Goldwing or Buick:lol:

.

He had a KTM and it was not the ticket for the different types of riding that we do and spent too much time dealing with clutch's.

He has had this bike for 1 month and had it in four mx races (2 x 1st places) and one hair scramble (1st place).

Basically stock. Changes thus far;

1: new mx tires (stock ones were sure death in the mud)

2: drilled holes in the air box

3: took out exhaust baffle

He has broken 3 spokes and bent the rear wheel from jumping.

He weighs 47lbs.

I will not be allowed to use a big bore kit.

I want to get him as much power as I can out of the stock engine, increase the suspension and lighten up the entire bike.

This is a list of what I will order this week;

1: iShock V2 Non Reservoir ( 50-110 lb)

2: TBR +1 Fork Leg Extender Kit with Springs for TT-R50 - Two Brothers

3: TBR TTR50 Rear Aluminum Swingarm Kit +2

4: TTR50 Exhaust System by BBR

5: TBR TTR50 Billet Racing Chain Guide for TT-R50

6: BMX Bar Clamp Controls Combo Kit for TT-R50 :confused:very unsure of this one?

7: Five-O RK MXZ Chain

8: new rear wheel and spokes have already been ordered.

What do you think. I'm not really worried about looks, just performance.

Should I change something in the list or maybe add something, etc.

Should I put a 12" wheel on the front?

The BBR pipe claims 1.5 more HP with stock jetting. is this true or should I go with a different Pipe.

Moving the clip up a notch. Is this a thing to do?

Gratefull for any help or advice

well its a done deal,

ordered all of the items on the list +-.

Did not get the BBR pipe. Got a Pro Circuit T-4 instead.

Also picked up a "DID Gold Race Chain" and a Two Bros Speed Chain Guide.

I'm still up for any suggestions.

Thanks

I would go back to the KTM. The clutch is not that hard once you get the hang of it. Actually, I would look at a Polini X-1 or a Cobra CM50. They have better suspension than the TTR. I'm not sure where you are or if you are racing AMA but if so those mods are not legal. Regardless of what bike he races, keep encouraging him. Good luck.

This is my daughters bike and your son's bike will look more or less like hers but i'd go for a 88cc big bore kit as there's a 106 takegawa big bore kit on hers and it pull's way to hard for her so i would get a less cc big bore kit and get the fly wheel lightened i've bought hd spokes and blue rims but have'nt got around to fitting them yet.....

First off... just wanted to say LUCKY!!!! You might also want to try a coil, advancing the timing, and some guy was talking about getting the carb and head ported. There are all kinds of threads on it here. And the most noticable improvement riding wise was a bigger seat. And a Vortech supercharger

Man, thats all sounds like some good info.

Got me a little worried about that fork too stiff thing.

can I use the original fork springs in the longer tubes?

Are the new springs longer or just stiffer?

As far as going back to a KTM or Cobra, I still do not have much desire for it.

I take him riding on the trails etc. and take him on some rocky up hill techinical type terrain. What was occuring, was he would get hung up mid way up these type terrains and then have to keep that thing wound up and basically just burnt clutches up in the process.

He also now understands gearing and the uses going both up and down terrain.

I will be a very happy man when he begins riding a 65.

Thanks for all the info, and I can say these forums are great for beginners like myself.

How Tall is your daughter,( my son 48" )because I have thought about a tall seat.

What seat is that, and I guess if I go high seat I will go higher bars as well.

How do you like the Pro taper bars?

Thanks for your reply

A decent engineering shop could shave your flywheel and the seat on my daughter's bike is a two brother's seat kit and you dont have to put taller bars on with a taller seat,my daughter is 50 inche's tall....

for more power i would get the head ported and gasflowed go for a slightly bigger carb or re jet it to suit the gas flowing and porting ,get the fly wheel lightened, advance the timing, fit a race cam and get the head skimmed for more compression or get a high compression piston, alter the gearing and get a race pipe and race filter and a kitaco super coil or a rota kit, there loads of option's you can do for more power just depends how big your wallet is...

Man I would have to sell my wallet and then get into my wifes purse to get that done.

I guess there is a line that I will have to draw on the amount of $ I want to invest in this. I want to get him on a KX65 as soon as he can touch the ground.

I actually have a question that some friends of mine and myself can't figure out.

Why put the $ in a pit bike instead of buying a full size ( adult ) bike.

I mean adult riders, and I really do not want to make anybody mad with that question.

I never realized there was such a market for it until I started looking for mods for my sons TTR50.

I also know I must really be behind in the times with that thinking.
