Anyone have experience with them?

Pro's / Con's

I ride tracks 100% and will be racing often.

What do you guys think?

I wrench on all my own bikes and have been in MX for 15 years, anyone think its a good choice?

Rebuild times/cost etc would be helpful

Get the 124+R. Out of the box there is no differences in peak horsepower, more cams are available, less maintenance, and a whole lot cheaper.

the DOHC was designed for high-RPM street use for street bikes, is silly expensive and replacement parts aren't the easiest to come by.

Takegawa developed that kit 10+ years ago and the design is begging to be updated. In fact, Takegawa did design a desmo DOHC, but it never made it to market.

Go with the +R and put the savings into other parts.

have/had them both the 124 +r and the dohc got rid of the +r cause i didn't like it. i'll try to give you a run down from my experience and remember i have had both of them so i'm not just guessing on how the + r ran.

the dohc could pull more R's and felt like it had more hp but it made its power high in the power band. the plus r felt like it had less ass but felt more torquey than the dohc in a drag the dohc would beat it hands down didn't matter who was on what bike. actually dyno numbers not even going to go there cause they weren't off a dynojet so it would just be a headache to say but the dohc did out hp it at least on that dyno. maintience isn't as bad as what everyone makes the dohc to be. the take dohc's do have ****ty stock valves and will wear out quick but if you put a good set of valves in it the motor will last just as long as that +r will. the cons do out weight the pros for the dohc. with the take dohc you do have to run a special bend pipe which limits your pipe selections, cams aren't as plentyfull as a good ol 2 valve but the ones that are offered aren't bad but your going to pay twice the price as a single, if you deal with 2 bros you will NEVER let me repeat NEVER get any parts you want for your dohc, and prolly everyones biggest con with them is the price tag. for the price diffference between the 2 your better off sticking with the plus R unless you don't give a witches tit about how much you spend and want an exotic motor then by all means go with the dohc. if you have any questions fill free to ask i know a lil bit about them.

If you go with a daytona dohc the valves are much beter than the tak and you can run the same pipes as normal 2 valves. It will kill a SE.Let me know I will let you ride mine

The price is the main reason I would get this motor. I will def. have to try your motor out once we can ride again.

The Takegawa DOHC requires a special bend exhaust pipe... Daytona DOHC doesn't.

Chad, which cam did you have for the +R? There's a big difference between the S12 sold with the kits here in the USA then the full on S35 race cam used for high-speed, high-rpm pavement racing.
