What the point of having some rare and of interest to people and then chop it up and mod. Leave the mini a mini. It is cool because of what it is, a Honda Ape 50.

It's still a big engine in a little bike! Difference in opinion I suppose, but I think that's half the fun. We slap 110, 138, 168 etc. engines in 50cc monkey's, so if you can put a crf150 engine in there and hook it up, I say go for it!

The apes are all 50's the XR's are 1 100 and 2 50 I think all in red. Mine started out as a 50 but it does have the 80cc takegawa kit already on it. I don't like to post prices on forums so PM me if you really want to know.

You sure about that? On Hondas own history page on honda.co.jp they state that in Feb 2002 they released the Ape100. Also all the Japanese vendors have focused their efforts on tuning parts for the 100 motor, that is why the Ape100 is in much more of a demand then the Ape50 is in japan. none the less the conversion for someone to the Ape100 is just a drop in of the 100 motor.

Hey Brad yeah the 100 are the bigger item. I was just saying that the two Ape's that are left for sale are 50's not that they are all 50's. I was looking for a 100 for a long time and it never panned out so I went the fifty way. I could also do a 100 motor out of an xr and just get all the good stuff for that too. I need to do some planning on the whole thing to get all the pieces I want.

The bike is a 2002 and if anyone wants one I know of two more available. One is the red white and blue version while the other is black with the orange and white striping. I think one is stock and the other has a pipe. Also I know of xr50 and xr100 motards available brand new. None of them are super cheap but they are available.

sent you a PM. I'm in IL too and might be interested in one of the Apes and maybe th xr100 motard.

I was thinking about that. But with the stats I have been reading the 124 Takegawa kit makes more power than the xr200 stock. They are claiming 17 HP out of it.

a response and a question:

i think that the 124 kit would be more fun and more powerful, but the xr200/250 would be much more reliable

and when you say xr100 motard, do you an xr100 turned into a motard or an actual xr100 motard from the japanese factory?

ah! your lucky! always "dream" about a 100cc street legal here in Québec...

on monkeyUk sites theres a 100cc retail price $4941.82US or ÂŁ2495 + taxes...

if they will ship for free i'll order one right away!....

It is a true xr100 motard from Japan.

Do you guys thing that the motor will not be reliable with a 124 kit on it? I thought the Takegawa stuff was good quality.

well it is reliable for a high performance engine, but any high performance engine like that is more acceptable to breaking and having something go wrong

it would be cool to have a 124 tak, but the xr200 motor is never going to break unless you ride it like you stole it 24/7.

Well I got to play with the bike finally tonight. The jetting was way off so the bike wouldn't run at first. Kinda made me pissed since I had paid a good amount for it. But after about an hour or so of playing with the needle and getting an air filter to fit, the bike hums great. The pipe sounds sweet and the bike has lots of power for being an 82cc.

Took another spin on it tonight. Man that is a fun bike!!! The 82cc motor does a pretty good job of getting me around. I can probably go up a tooth on the front and get some good top speed. It is going past 60 kph in third right now so i think it should pull pretty good in forth and fifth.
