I have replaced the wheels on my RCM with a 14/12 combo and was looking for suggestions as how to handle the front wheel possibly coming into contact with the engine/skid plate. I have the forks slid down as far as I'm comfortable and it still doesn't seem to be enough. I plan on pulling the springs and verifying it, but am almost positive it'll make contact. I possibly will mill the top triple to lower it as it's way overkill in it's present state. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Aside From Changing The Head Angle And Doing What You Are Doing With The Triple Clamps, I Dont Know If There Is Anything You Can Do. Maybe Bend/grind The Front Of The Skid Plate But The Tire Will Prob. Still Hit The Engine. Rcm Is Supposedly Coming Out With A 14/12 Combo Soon. Maybe Skindonor Can Chime In?

I'm contemplating lopping the skid plate and rolling it up like a 110. Might just add heavier oil and a spacer to take some of the travel out of the forks, crazy isn't it. If they only made some drop style top triples like the 110's have.

The bike looks good with the 14/12 other than the front fender seems small, I'll probably get a 70 fender and trim it down. I bought maxxis maxxcross IT tires and they are sweet, exactly like the ones on my 450. I pulled the caps last night, it's hits at the 5 1/2" travel mark. So, I have the front end on the work bench awaiting me to find the time to mill the top triple down to get the 1/2" I need to clear. I'll post some before and after pics of the triples as soon as I get done.

not to sound like a ass but if you think about it a bit. It wont ever travel that far down cause of the springs, oil and the Pressure in side the front forks.

I.E. try it out and pull the top or the caps off your 450 and slam it on the ground and see where the front tire hits the frame at just try it :) and see what happens

any how if it is a rcm bike i talked to vince last week and what he told me is that they mounted a 14/12 on one of there bikes to run in las vegas and because of the rake on the head tube that there is no mod needed to run the 14 in the front

OK, to be an ass, I am very proficient in cumulative stack-ups, I know the fork travel, so equipped with the handy ol sharpie, tape measure and to save me from fighting the springs, I pulled the caps, bottomed the tire out into my skid plate and marked that point on the fork tube. I came up with the 1/2" needed to just clear, which I so lovingly milled out of my excessively thick top triple last night. Also that is with the forks slid way down in the triples, so with them even at the top it would be even more.
