So I went riding last night at a certain track and there were about 12 of us regulars there, all being pretty quick on the track and have a good relationship with the track officials.
We were all riding, having a good time, bangin' bars and pushin' each other around. The track owner was having a guy build some stands for the flagers to put next to some of the bigger jumps so they can see both sides and be able to warn oncoming riders with the wave of their flag. Its a great idea but the problem was that the stands are right on the edge of the jump, not 12"s from were the normal traffic goes over. It wouldnt be bad if the jump wasnt right out of a sweeper and your in third gear to hit it. I know I probably wont hit it (although I came too close for comfort as did others) unless I get way out of line and squirly. There are ALWAYS kids getting squirly and falling on that jump, and if there were one of those wild ass kids on 80's who are totally out of comtrol... They ARE going to take the thing out.
The flager is a good 8-10' off the ground with a rail waist high all the way around, and would be about impossible to get out of in a hurry (like some one hitting it). One flager already expressed his/her concern about that exact reason.
One of my buddies went up to the track owner and and KINDLY started talking to him/her about it. Which he/she was already in a bad mood for some odd reason, I love him/her to death, but theres no reason to be a total ars and be so hard headed towards us when we just got there and hadnt cause any trouble yet (by the way, something we never do). They used to listen to the customers and take into account their worries and whats good or not, but lately it has been "Thats the way it is, if you dont like it then go home" and that is not the attitude that makes people want to come back or keep coming back.
I tried talking to him/her and asked about what if a little kid were to hit it? He/she replied that "it's only aluminium, it'll bend!" which is true, but its not going to give enough to not total F up the rider and the person thats going to be stand a top it. His/her other comment was "theres no tire marks any were near it" which after that comment I went and looked and sure enough there were tire mark not 8"s from it, now theres and 8" gap between the tire mark and the pole... to one side of the bike bars stick out more than 8". Now I believe some people were pretty lucky.
Everone has noticed the attitude change of people working at the track, Its almost not even fun any more to go ride unless you have your own group of buddies and your all hangin out together BSin' , as far away from the track you can get where no one random is going to come over and start giving you sh!-y attitudes.
The track is by far the best pit bike track in this state but it wont be if people dont stop getting run off, and having NO input what so ever on things that could make the track that much better.
Ohh and they keep saying they are tryng to make to make the track safer by spreading the lanes apart so theres less of a chance of head ons, If you want to make it safer move the damn death stands 1.5 to 2' back.... then if some one were to hit it then they totally deserve it.
And this post was written annonamously....
