I noticed that there was oil leaking out of the left case cover on my BMS HZ 125, so i bought a gasket and in the process of replacing that i noticed it looks like there are 2 cut out notches in the case that look like they would let oil leak out. am i missing something? they don't look like they have been damaged, but rather that they are supposed to be there. any help would be great, thanks,

jim

ps- 1st pit bike so give me a break...

i don't see a leak there, i think i might have to have someone look at it that knows a little more than me, cause i think it is tough for you to help me too much unless i could give you a call or something? PM your number if that is okay, jim

also i see 2 drain plugs on the bottom of the engine, the one on the right side is obiously the engine, but i assumed the one on the left would be for the tranny, but the only other fill point i can find is in the cover that i just removed (the left case/stator cover). There seemed to be a decent amount of oil leaking initially and i thought that the 2nd drain plug (left one, not engine) was linked to the cover i was removing so i removed that and almost no oil cam out of it. I then removed the cover (there was a little oil at the bottom. the engine oil level seems fine, so it must be the tranny oil right? where is the fill on these things? Also the drain plug had a spring loaded rod in it, if that helps at all. I have only messed around with 2 strokes, so this is kinda new to me.

The "drain plug" with the spring behind it is your cam chain tensioner. The other one is your drain plug. You fill where the dip stick is.

*Birddog beat me to it...haha

that "drain plug" with the spring is not a drain plug. It is for the cam chain tensioner assembly. make sure that spring goes back in the right way (small end up) and tighten that bolt back up. You shouldn't ever need to touch that one.

Maybe somebody put oil in through the top of your ignition cover not knowing any better?? Your bike isn't made by a reputable name... anything is possible.

Transmission and engine oil is the same thing in these engines. The fill is on the clutch cover side. The right side. You should not have oil anywhere near your ignition. Oil ISN'T supposed to be in that cover that has the two little cut outs. Those are most likely to let condensation and water out from rain/washing. Like matt said, the only way you have oil getting in your igntion cover is if the big o-ring around the stator plate (behind the gold flywheel) is leaking, or maybe the crankshaft seal in the stator plate.

Fill it back up with oil and keep a close eye on the level. If it continues to leak around the ignition side of the engine you will need to replace some seals. Honda seals should fit that igntion.

Yeah it is on that side, but it is wierd cause there is what looks like and oil fill hole in the top of that cover, why would that be there then? and this is where the oil was leaking. Sorry i don't know too much about this, thanks for the help.

jim
The whole in the top of that cover is so you can look at the timing marks on the flywheel without having to remove that cover.
