Hello I have a old 69 ct70 that I got 3 years ago,and it was completely rusted out and looked to be in disrepair. i got the bike from someone who lived on the ocean and left it outside exposed to the weather and had not touched it in ten years but as rotten as it was the engine still wasn't seized(gotta love a honda) so i took it home and thought i could have some fun with it and not have to worry too much about it plus i did not think anyone would want to steal such a looker? but after some exhausting fun with a hammer un-seizing all of the rusted parts i then got started on trying to get the engine to run the next headache was figuring out the wiring and rebuilding the stator once finished i finally got a spark. then i noticed the carb had disintegrated from the inside out and there was no chance to rebuild it so i bought a new Chinese one and it fired right up, with a little fine tuning it ran like new. i even managed to clock it at 32mph with that tired old 70 it had with half the lower jug rusted away, but a complete original rebuild just wasn't financially possible at the time so it lived on as a run around and learner bike for the next 2 years with the original trail wing tires holding strong. but one day the rear tire inevitably blew so i had too buy new ones and when i did i must have released all of the old pixies that were holding her together and it was all down hill from there, the ignition gave out then the engine threw a rod(too many power wheelies i guess) so i bought a new engine(lifan 125) and when i sat it next to the bike it really showed its age so a complete rebuild it is! i started by tearing it down to nothing and sandblasting every part and re-welding the seams. so piece by piece i have slowly put it all back together and customizing parts along the way out of whatever i from other builds. Here is the progress so far.
.

this is pretty close to what i started with.

sorry i wasn't expecting to add this project to a forum so the are not many pre project photos

trying to figure out where to run the exhaust so it doesn't rub against the rear shocks and my leg

the old bars were bent and rusted so i salvaged what i could and re-welded them

made my own stainless 1" duel exhaust

next project is to build a seat(any ideas?)

foot pegs were removed and replaced with rear sets on the swing arm

i made a custom clear/aluminum stator cover

and this is how she sits today, there is still a lot to do to finish her up so any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!!

Thanks Hoandazrider it has definitely been a bit tricky finding both the wiring diagrams for the K0 and the Lifan that i can understand(probably why i have been procrastinating getting it done) i will give it a try soon and if i have any questions i will definitely let you know, thank you for the help!

I was thinking about making the seat narrow to match the frame and about level with the handle bars, but i cant fully decide on what color material i was leaning towards a coffee colored leather. Any ideas?

just based on what i see, are your plans to ride it or show it? I ask only because i can see you are way off on your gearing...that engine is a 125 or 140...either way, you need to be in the 17/35 combo range, maybe the 17/38 range...hard to tell as those tires are not familiar with me.

Can you share what tires you are running here? they look really cool!

This bike is awesome...can I offer you a few things?

If range is not a concern, you could get a metal tank and chop the neck off and do some fab to shorten it so the filler sits below the frame line. This will make your seat fab options open up a little bit. having explored super thin seats in the past, there are some interesting options you could do here if you have removed interfering items from inside the frame, primarily building a pan that uses that space so you can put some more padding in it. Since you have those low bars, a seat hump on the back supports the tailbone of configured right and the deeper padding in the center if you can dish that area out gives cushion to the gooch...then you might have some actual comfort. these are just thoughts that shouldn't interfere with the look you're trying to achieve.

Overall, very nice..can't wait to see the finished result!

Thank you fatcaat for your help i, i did not plan on building a show bike or anything i plan to ride it around town and definitly to any mini bike meets i can and i really wanted to rebuild the bike in a way that shows its classic style but in a new way. i just got the new 125 running but have not been able to test drive it yet the the current ratio is 17/42 when the one that was on the bike when i got it was 14/42 stock 70cc had a top speed of 32 mph with the trail wing tires. i am curious to see what it will do now on the road, the new tires are an unbranded 4.00-10 c tire i got from a local scooted shop in miami

i really appreciate all of your help with the seat and the gearing, i think i am going to start mocking up the seat real soon and i will upload the pictures as i go. thank you again!

I use this small Shop-Task mill/lathe for most of my metal fabricating
There is one of these for sale locally for 1200 bucks. It has cnc controls on it as well, but missing the center rest and tail stock. I have a mini mill, in the process of building a larger CNC and have a crappy lathe...would it be worth picking this up given i have that other equipment?

I have the Harbor Freight Central Machinery model 44142 that's nearly identical. I'm curious how you machined the cases. I'd like to do this to my Zongshen 190 engine.

i just used a half assed rotary table made out of some scrap i had, then i just centered up the case cover and did a perimeter cut at the diameter i wanted

i wish i was skilled enough to know how to operate a CNC im sure it would make things a lot easier sometimes(maybe one of these days)and i don't currently have a center rest or really use the tailstock that often only big pieces but im sure you can get on to fit it after the fact. and my lathe was 850.00 used when i got it and i believe it costs somewhere around 1k to retrofit one to CNC so if yours already comes set up for CNC and you know how to operate it, it sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Love the line the top of this bike has. Also really like how you have the rear sets set up. Did you machine them yourself or mod them from another bike?
