Hi guys, looking to see if anyone can help me here. I'm trying to add LED lights to my 110. I have a Baja Designs 5 wire Regulator Rectifier, battery pack and the LED lights I want to use. The question I have is, Has anyone added a reg/rect and battery to their klx.

I'm sure everyone has seen this Project Kawasaki KLX110 Installing a Headlight for Night Riding: Off-Road.com and it does reference a DC charging system but I'm thinking that is a mistake.

Has anyone here actually converted to a dc system on the 110?
I'm thinking this is how it would go but curious if anyone has tried it. Hopefully this thread will help others in the future. I'll update this post with pics after I try it but please post your opinions and suggestions.

One of our crew added LEDs to his L. He was called several nasty names and after much harassment for adding senseless things to a dirt bike....he took them off. We told him to buy a Hyabusa, lower it, chrome the swingarm and put the LED kit on that instead.

I converted my KLX to a DC system. Using the KLX 110L stator as it is wound differently and output is higher than the standard stator. Also running a Trail Tech adjustable reg/rec, lithium battery and two 2x6 LED bars (one spot, one flood).

I'm guessing you are talking about those colored accent ligjts, I'm talking about LED light bars for riding at night.

I got a 110L and wired it to the battery with dean connectors as your on off, I have a on of switch on top of the dean connectors. We made them work on 02-09 wiring it to the harness just fine, but it only works when it's running obviously.
Well that's interesting that you got it to work, could you tell us which wires you tapped into on the stock harness for 2002-2009 models?

Also, I sent the diagram posted to baja designs and talked to them about it, they said they were never able to get it to work with a charging system and that the klx110 has a weird system where it's a split ac/DC system but without a battery. I believe them but I'm still determined enough to try to make it work.

Yeah, I thought you were after some pimp lights to make your tank glow in the dark. To answer your question: Yes, you can tap right into the existing wiring of the 02-09 and wire in a switch and make it work. I had a DRZ with head and tail lights tapped right into stock electrical. It was done by previous owner. I have since sold the bike. I find it hard to believe as many people that put head and tail lights on 02-09 that you couldn't find a write up on here on how to do it, or that their isn't even a sticky on it...Hu, At least you know it can be done w/o moding the stock electrical system.

I haven't put one on a dirtbike, but I have recently put two large LED bars on my truck and Jeep. Both came with a complete wiring harness, switch and relay. All I had to do was connect a ground wire and the positive wire to the battery,

Just to clarify further, I know lights can easily be added to the stock AC system, my question and what I can't find is specifically adding a DC system to the bike to allow the use of LED lights which require DC power.

Just an update for anyone interested in this LED upgrade. I Installed the light I want to use along with a new set of bars. The output shaft broke on me before I got a chance to wire anything up. I'm trying to find another motor but I'm on a tight budget so it might take me a few weeks. I will update with pics once I get this going.

Wanted to update this old thread. After dealing with a broken output shaft and getting my motor back together I finally had a chance to get this lightning system up and running.

I tried a square wave rectifier but the stator couldn't power the light at idle. What I ended up doing was tapping the Baja designs regulator rectifier into the yellow wire and white wire at the stock regulator and running a Baja designs battery pack. The system charges the battery very well and the light works perfect. Basically I'm robbing some power from the stock system but leaving the stock system in place. If you have questions let me know.

Pretty cool....now, question is can you get a tag for it? I want to ride mine to chipotle between races (it's a pit bike) Plus I want to smoke those groms.
