I have grown up in Oklahoma and first learned how to ride on a '89 z50 and went on to race cross country and motocross for many years in OCCRA. I recently got married and my wife and I decided to have a kid...well we got two for the price of one and we are expecting twin girls. So with that being said I need to be frugal with my mods (I have a 2014 Jk Jeep that gets a lot of attention too). So I have a few questions...

I ordered new tires for the z50 so far but need taller bars. I am just going to buy the clamps for the xr70 and get my own bars, do I absolutely need to getter longer throttle and brake cables?
I also would like a new exhaust to open her up a little, what do you suggest? I also want a modest swing arm extension, what is best option?

not 100% sure on the cables...but i know on my 94...i could EASILY go a few inches taller and wider and still have everything fit....really its going to come down to what bars you end up running

sounds like youve had some fun and are going to be getting your hands very full lol

Just order the bar mounts from a '79 z50 (as seen below), they'll bolt up right where the stock bars mount and then you can add some cheap BMX style bars. They don't raise the bars a ton, but the fact that you can adjust the bars outward and away from your knees makes a huge difference. You'll need parts 11 & 12 seen here: DiscountHondaParts.com, Honda, Polaris, KTM, Ski-Doo, Motorcycle, ATV, Snowmobile, Parts and Accessories.

Regarding exhaust; I vote to spend your money elsewhere. Exhaust by itself isn't going to do much for you; might even require you to fiddle with the jetting to get it right anyways. Now, if you wanna slap a 88cc cylinder kit on there, then exhaust is justified IMO. For the swinger, there's plenty of +3" kits available (though I just saw a thread on here about a well known one people buy that seems to require a little light fabricating to get it to bolt up just right) However the cheapest option would be to look for a stock XR75 swinger on eBay. They bolt right up and give you either 1.5" or 3"; can't remember

ive got another trick to add to that vid....slice the FACE of the tire all the way around so you now working with 2 wheel halves with tire on them...its ALOT easier to work with and you have less force fighting the rubber....i do this on basicly any hard to get off bike tire..even my street bike tires..makes them a walk in the park

Weclome to PM.

The bike F150Motorcrosser posted was one of mine as is the video about tire removal, so glad to see that stuff still getting some usage.

I like the ProTaper xr50 bars the best. I didn't really like the Tags you see in the bike above (too wide).
The ProTapers (about $31 right now) are what I've used on the last few builds of mine and I really like them: ProTaper Handlebar CRF50 XR50 Handlebar | eBay

Not sure on the length of cables since I can't remember the last time I used the stock ones.

You can put a xr75 swingarm on the Z50, but you have to trim the pivot points a bit and drill and weld in a brake panel boss. You'll see the brake boss on your current swingarm (holds the brake panel in the hub straight). XR75 swingers are +4" over stock. The bikes below have XR75 swingarms on them.

Exhaust won't do much if the engine is stock except make it louder.

great looking bikes. And thanks for the protaper suggestion, I always loved protaper on my big bikes so I will check it out!
I highly recommend the xr75 swingarm upgrade. did one on my bike. hard to tell though as I put a gorrilla tank on a short monkey frame. I moved the seat back to make room for the larger tank. probably the best thing I did to the bike as it made it very ridable and made the extended swingarm look stock.
