OK, this has been brewing for a while. A local minibike company, Monstermoto found some of my bikes online, and figuring I was local, might be able to give them some advice on the line of adult minibikes they want to put together. After some discussion, the idea of a minibiker build-off was proposed. Not just because I always wanted to do one, or that I thought it would be some fun, but also to maybe influence what actually hits the stores. So they graciously have offered 5 bikes to customize any way that the builder sees fit, to be kept by each builder when we are done with it. Because of the coming holidays, this is kind of a tough time to be too demanding time-wise. This is not going to be one of those 30 day deals you see on TV. I am thinking that a 90 day schedule with a February 1, 2015 deadline for judging. The only requirement of the participants is that they post progress pictures and their finished product on this thread. Judging has not been decided. I thought a Planet Minis poll would be the way to go, but am open for suggestions. Prizes were not decided on, but I was thinking of making a minibiker build-off trophy from some extra parts around here. As far as participants, PM members Shapeshifter, Swollen Tripod, Carlo C. and myself committed to do the build-off, but an extra bike is still up for grabs. It might require a PM poll, but it would be cool if that spot could be filled by someone picked by PM members (this is where I am hoping Tmas can jump in and help officiate.) Both Razzo and Hondafiddyman were unable to do this build-off, but I can think of at least a half-dozen others members that have put together tasty builds recently, that might want to give it a go. The bikes we are starting with are inexpensive, and made for kids. I rode one around, and was surprised how well it did. The stopping power was much improved over the crap we had as kids. It could use more power for adults, though. The goal here is to have fun making some bikes. Everything from simple styling to all-out modification is allowed. Theme bikes, hunting rigs, swap-meet special, tail gating beer and BBQ vehicle, Low-rider cruiser, rat bike, adventure bike, fishing buddy, NASCAR tribute, it's all good.
